Kody Brown Admits He Is Still Living In The Past
Kody Brown is still trying to figure out how to move forward in his life after hisĀ Sister Wives lifestyle crashed down around him. Brown was married to four women and their lives played out on reality TV. However, starting in 2021, the marriages began to crumble. By the end of 2023, Kody had only one wife left.
Kody said in a recent interview he can’t stop living in his past and it is hurting him when moving on to the future.
Kody Brown not letting go of his past
In November 2021, Christine Brown announced that she had left Kody Brown after 26 years together. Then, in 2022, both Janelle Brown and Meri Brown also announced they were leaving Kody. While this was all known to fans of the show, no statements were made until it had a chance to play out on Sister Wives throughout 2023. Now, Kody is speaking up.
Kody said in an interview with PEOPLE that has no idea what the future holds. He then admitted that is likely because he hasn’t “let go enough of the past.” He proved that statement throughout the interview, as he kept looking back on what he felt was a good thing that everyone else around him ruined. Only Robyn Brown stayed with him in what is now a monogamous marriage.
Kody claims that no one was happy and he had to listen to all their complaints. He also said that made him cynical. More so, he admitted that he loved their “situation” but not everyone else did. Of course, loving their “situation” isn’t the same as loving his wives. The reason Christine, Meri, and Janelle left was because they felt their marriage with Kody was no longer based on love.
Kody couldn’t seem to admit in the interview that he was the problem. “I didn’t want to be the guy that has this family that I struggle with until I’m dead. Then they all get along just great after I’m gone,” he said. He also said that he didn’t understand why they couldn’t “transcend this now.” He also said it broke his heart because he loved “the life we have.”
Kody Brown says he loved their life in the past
It seems that Kody Brown’s first three wives tired of him over the years. He lived a patriarchal lifestyle where he determined what everyone could and couldn’t do in their lives. As a result, one by one, each of his first three wives left for better lives on their own. For Kody, this hurt the most because he remembers a “great life that we had.”
Kody looks at his family, which included 20+ people trying to survive and he said it “was great.” He said he was optimistic of their future and now he can’t stop looking at that past. “It was lovely,” Kody said. “It’s changed now.” In the end, he said he just wants them to let each other move on.
