Is Paramore Over After Wiping Social Media?
Paramore has deleted profile pics and posts from social media sites like Instagram and X, and their website no longer exists.
On December 26, Paramore’s millions of followers across their social media accounts were suddenly left with nothing but questions. This comes after the band completely scrubbed their content on Instagram and X. The band also removed their profile pics and replies.
The band’s official website has also been deactivated. When attempting to access paramore.net, there is nothing but ‘404 Not Found’ error.
From Cover Story To Wiping Their Social Media
On December 14, the band sat down with Uproxx to discuss the past, present, and future of the band. While they admit that the band has had their fair share of drama, they still remain a tight-knit group. Drummer Zac Farro says that there is plenty of love to go around. “We still love each other, and we are still building this world that brings people in and includes people, not excludes people,” Farro says. “That’s the thing that stands the test of time. It’s not if you make the coolest record or have the most tour buses, or the most streams or TikTok views.”
In a series of now-deleted tweets in 2020, lead singer Hayley Williams came out and spoke against bigotry she could no longer stay silent about. “There’s a reason there are only 3 people left in Paramore. Surprise, haters, it ain’t cause of me,” Williams wrote. “Paramore do not condone religiously/politically dogmatic beliefs which leave our LGBTQ+ friends, fans, & family feeling abandoned and hopeless. If that doesn’t jive with you, well, feel free to go to where all past members of Paramore have gone which is literally anywhere else but Paramore.”
Through it all, Paramore has managed to last for nearly two decades. Williams says that is a testament to the band’s dedication to their craft. “We are a band that has survived a lot of technological advances, a lot of cultural upheavals,” Williams says. “I don’t understand how we’re still here, truly, but I feel very fortunate.”
Fans React To Paramore Going Dark
Paramore’s move to eliminate its social media presence comes as a complete shock to most fans. Without any answers, the band’s most loyal fans are left questioning whether they’ve heard the last of Paramore.
In one Reddit post, fans of the band have come up with their best guesses behind the sudden social media cleanse. “It is likely the record company maintained those accounts,” wrote one user. “If they’ve terminated their contract, their record company doesn’t have to cover those anymore. If the band wants to have an online presence, they have to pay someone to do it or do it themselves.”
Another user didn’t seem too worried about the sudden change. “Paramore has almost disbanded a bunch but have clearly stated the bands in the best shape it’s been in years,” they wrote. “Even if there had been an argument they have been active on your this month and doubt they’d completely burn everything down within a [couple] of weeks if they were disbanding.”
A third user agrees that artists wiping their social media accounts is a common occurrence. “It’s become a relatively common thing for artists to nuke all their socials before starting a new era/album cycle etc,” the user wrote.
