‘Bachelor’ Star Colton Underwood Producing LGBTQ+ Dating Show?
Colton Underwood and his husband launched a new production company. Is the former Bachelor producing his own LGBTQ dating show? Keep reading for all the details about the projects he has in the works already.
Colton Underwood Launches Production Company With Husband
Colton Underwood has spent enough time in front of the camera. He wants to get behind the camera to produce content that’s relative and bridges the gap between conservatives and liberals.
The former Bachelor star and his husband of five months, Jordan C. Brown, launched a production company called As Best Friends Production.
Underwood has some experience as an executive producer of his Netflix series Coming Out Colton, which followed him as he came out to family and close friends after years of masquerading as straight, including as a contestant and lead on the Bachelor Nation dating show franchise.
The reality star’s husband is a political strategist for the Democratic party. He was also Underwood’s first public boyfriend since he came out in 2021. The two married in California in May 2023.
One Project Is Documentary Shining Light On Mental Health & College Athletes
As Bachelor fans know, Colton Underwood is a former college football star who spent two years in the NFL before an injury sidelined his athletic career. But he has never left football behind.
Variety reports that one of the projects for Underwood’s production company focuses on mental health among college athletes. He told the outlet that he’s concerned about the “mental toll” it takes on young athletes who become famous millionaires almost overnight.
In 2015, the former Bachelor launched the Colton Underwood Legacy Foundation. Through the foundation, he supports the TEAMS Act, legislature that would “enhance suicide prevention and increase mental health services among college athletes.”
The Act is sponsored by Senators John Boozman (R-AR) and Cory Booker (D-NJ.)
Variety reveals that Underwood and his husband have spent months lobbying Congress, and cameras were there every step of the way.
The footage is for a documentary that will be produced by Underwood’s production company. He’ll also serve as host.
Is Colton Underwood Producing LGBTQ+ Dating Show?
Bachelor Nation fans have been begging ABC to create a Bachelor spinoff that features an LGBTQ+ lead. It seemed like a real possibility in 2021 after Colton Underwood came out as gay. However, the network shifted focus to The Golden Bachelor, a senior dating show where the lead and the contestants are all over the age of 60. Fans are hoping for a Golden Bachelorette spinoff.
With ABC dropping the ball, is Colton Underwood ready to run with it? The Variety feature on his new production company teases a dating show as one project he’s working on.
“It’s still of interest of me to do one, and weirdly, it would be a full circle moment for me,” he told the outlet of the dating show.
Underwood remained mum on the details of the dating show, but he did say it’s not a gay dating show. He did vow to focus on the mental health of the participants by providing therapy for a year at no cost to the cast.
