Jerry O’Connell Had Bad Experience On ‘Live,’ Won’t Return
The Talk host Jerry O’Connell had a horrible experience on the set of Live and doesn’t plan to return.
The actor is widely beloved for his roles on the stage and screen and loves being part of The Talk cast. But when it comes to his experience with Live, the show left a bitter taste in his mouth.
What exactly happened?
Jerry O’Connell shares his poor experience on Live
It seems that even live talk shows aren’t always so happy behind the scenes. The Talk star Jerry O’Connell recently sat down with the Literally! With Rob Lowe podcast to discuss a variety of things. And his experience with Live came up.
Although Jerry O’Connell and Kelly Ripa have maintained a friendly working relationship over the years, they had their share of drama too.
“I was booked on as the third guest on Kelly and Regis, this was 13-12 years ago, and they bumped me,” Jerry described the situation on the podcast. “They ran out of time because … whoever was the first guest went over. I was livid. I was really angry.”
The actor says he went back to the subway and was cursing up a storm. Once he was on the train, he vowed he would never appear on Live again. But as viewers know, that didn’t necessarily happen. Jerry O’Connell later revealed Live called him back to host the show with Kelly Ripa.
“I was standing there and they said, ‘Live with Kelly and Regis. Filling in for Regis today is Jerry.’ And I went, ‘I’m hosting the show?,'” the 49-year-old shared. He was so surprised at the situation and admittedly was not sober while hosting his first episode. The actor later accepted several offers to fill in for Regis Philbin.
The actor still wanted to pursue a career in daytime television
After detailing his experience, it seems that Jerry O’Connell should have been a frontrunner when Regis Philbin retired. But sadly, that was not the case.
“I have never been a frontrunner for a job,” Jerry revealed on Rob Lowe’s podcast. “And I spent a lot of months co-hosting with [Kelly] and I didn’t get that job.”
He went on to say that Ryan Seacrest was an amazing choice for the hosting gig.
“I would’ve been a mistake. But after that, I was like, now I have to succeed in daytime [TV],” Jerry revealed. Thankfully, he secured his role on The Talk in 2021. Now, plenty of fans enjoy watching him on the show each day.
Were you surprised to learn that Jerry O’Connell initially had such a negative experience on Live? Do you think he will change his mind and return now that it’s Live with Kelly and Mark? Share your ideas in the comments.
