Fans of General Hospital have been itching for an update regarding John J. York’s cancer and if his medical leave will be ending any time soon.

His Cancer Journey

It was back in September that news of General Hospital star John J. York’s cancer diagnosis first broke. Sadly, he had been diagnosed with two different types of cancer including myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and multiple smoldering myeloma. Furthermore, he needed a donor.

A little over a week later, the actor received some exciting news: a donor for a blood stem cell transplant had been found.

During the first week of November, General Hospital fans received another update on John J. York’s cancer and treatment plan. He shared during the last update:

It’s literally a whole new ballgame from then on. From what I understand — this is kind of how I received the information — has been like pre-game and practice. The first week is an 8-day process of heavy-duty chemo, where I’ll probably lose my hair, and that’s OK.

Unfortunately, the actor was entering this treatment plan facing a lot of unknowns. He also had to come to terms with the fact that there was a chance he could pass away.

General Hospital John J. York Cancer & Medical Leave Update

Fortunately, John J. York took to X, formerly Twitter, yesterday with an update on his cancer. His update also included a hopeful update on his medical leave from the series. First, the actor addressed the elephant in the room. He was bald and all of his facial hair was gone. John explained that he just shaved the rest off after he lost a lot of it during his treatment.

Fortunately, John J. York shares that his treatments are going well. Presently, he’s about halfway through his treatment plan. Test results currently look great. And, his medical team is extremely hopeful.

The update is so promising that he believes his medical leave from General Hospital will come to an end. John adds that if things continue down the path they are currently on, he will return to the show sometime during the spring or summer of next year.

For now, he hopes his fans and followers have a lovely Christmas. Furthermore, he wanted to thank everyone for the messages and comments of support and encouragement. There are far too many for him to respond to them all. He, however, wanted everyone to know they meant the world to him.
