April Kirkwood Talks About Her Time On The Golden Bachelor

During April Kirkwood’s stay at The Golden Bachelor mansion, she revisited fond memories of flirting with Gerry Turner, bunking up with the other ladies, and even staging a spectacular on-court injury. Overall, she was a character from the moment she stepped out of the limo. In like fashion, she made her statement by representing her Ohio farm roots by emerging from the vehicle carrying eggs. Then she clucked and danced her way to Gerry in a memorable way. In addition, she showed she was full of personality by stealthily redecorating the sleeping quarters with her “April” calendars that show “Every month is April.” In like manner, they hung around the room displaying poses of a full year’s worth of photos all featuring her. April Kirkwood Won The Lottery

Although April Kirkwood didn’t take The Golden Bachelor home, at the end of the day she did win the lottery. Notably, she felt like a million bucks after exiting the mansion. Even so, she expresses that her heart did not shatter when she didn’t receive a rose. Not to say it wasn’t a sad moment for her though. While she didn’t score the love of Gerry, she still accomplished the goal. Reportedly, she participated in the show to find love and she did. Since the time April went into the house she felt love surround her she hadn’t expected.

Admittedly, she doesn’t make friends easily, most likely due to her profession as a therapist. Reportedly, she needs to control the room because she is always teaching and guiding people in her profession. But more than anything, it surprises her the close friendships she developed during her time there. And those were the true treasures.

April Kirkwood’s Big Winnings

Undeniably, April Kirkwood’s big win was the friendships she gained during The Golden BachelorSignificantly she expresses, “The mansion is an artificial world. You’re in a house with no phone, no TV, no one you’ve ever known before. It gets weird.” She continues, “I can see now how the younger girls on The Bachelor, being less experienced, freak out, start screaming, start crying.” Then she adds the big difference, “They haven’t survived as deep of heartache as the women our age. They haven’t lost children, spouses. They haven’t lost jobs, they haven’t lost homes. To them, this was, ‘If I don’t get a rose, I’m going to die!'” But she relays the sentiment, “We don’t say that. We’re like, ‘Am I going to die? No. I was going to die when my husband died, but I’m still standing.'”

The Golden Sorority “ASKN”

Admittedly, this was April Kirkwood’s “college experience” she never got. She says, “I thought, this is kind of a sorority — let’s make up our initials.” Then talking about the close-knit group of newfound besties Susan, Kathy, and Nancy she tells about the creation of “ASKN.” She says, “A for April, S for Susan … It grew into a lot of beautiful conversations. We would stay up till 4 a.m. just cracking up. I almost peed my pants. I don’t know how we got up the next morning.” Recalling the fun they had, “I pushed my bed next to theirs. I go, ‘Come on, girls! I don’t want to sleep by myself on the other side of the room. It’s too far away.’ So we made a big California king–size bed and it was really fun.”

And describing the true value she says, “It was healing for me because I never had that experience of girlfriends in a dorm.” Needless to say, April feels richer after going through this experience. She stays in touch with her crew, but not as often as they all want. Notably, she says it was a good thing she wasn’t completely sold on Gerry Turner. Otherwise, she might have burned the other contestants’ things and needed the police to break it up.
