Dancing With The Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba definitely didn’t win any additional fans this season. Many viewers thought she was incredibly unfair to certain contestants while simultaneously praising her favorites.

And the situation didn’t really improve during the season finale either. In fact, Carrie Ann received an onslaught of boos while critiquing The Bachelorette star Charity Lawson and her professional dance partner, Artem Chigvintsev.

What exactly did she say to rub viewers the wrong way?

Carrie Ann Inaba takes points from Charity & Artem’s Tango — but why?

During the season finale, DWTS judges generally score the remaining contestants well. Even Alyson Hannigan and Sasha Farber received one 10 during the Season 32 finale.

So why was Carrie Ann Inaba judging contestants so harshly? Audience members began to loudly boo Carrie Ann as she delivered scathing remarks to finalists Charity Lawson and Artem Chigvintsev after their Tango in the redemption round.

“Redemption. That was amazing. The way you danced that with passion and the connection between you and Artem. I could feel it the whole time,” Carrie Ann began her critique during Tuesday night’s episode. “This is the finale and I have to call everything I see. I did see something that looked like maybe it was a mistake and I honestly don’t know but I have to call it in order to be fair, but it was absolutely what I was asking for.”

Judge Derek Hough didn’t agree. He immediately praised the couple and said it was the best routine he’d seen all night long.

“That was captivating, it was fierce. It was so strong and so intense. That is a dance I want to see in the final,” Derek raved.

Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli both gave the couple 10s while Carrie Ann Inaba offered them a 9. She shrugged it off and simply said “Sorry!” as she held up her score paddle.

The judge hits back at her critics

This isn’t the first time this season that Carrie Ann received boos from the audience members. A few weeks ago, she even clapped back at naysayers.

“I judge what I see from my perspective,” the judge shared on an Instagram story at the time. “If I just did what other people do, I would have zero value as a judge. But as the woman on the panel, I’m constantly made a target of blame and vitriol.”

Some DWTS fans sympathized with her plight, but others pointed out that Derek and Bruno also get booed on stage.

Do you think Carrie Ann Inaba was right to take a point from Charity and Artem’s score? Or was she being too harsh? Leave your own ideas in the comments.

  1. If Carrie Ann can’t identify the error or even describe it, she shouldn’t count it against them. 2 out of 3 judges didn’t see an error. She does this all the time, especially this season with Charity and Artem. She dated Artem years ago and he broke up with her. Her revenge for sure!

  2. Yes, I thought Carrie’s remark & judging was completely out of place. Was very sorry to see this.
    It appeared obvious to me.
