Joan Vassos was an early fan favorite on the inaugural season of Golden Bachelor. The dating show spinoff was a departure from the others in the franchise because it featured older adults looking for a second chance at love later in life.
Despite connecting with Gerry Turner on a one-on-one date, Joan Vassos chose to go home during the show’s third episode. Her departure wasn’t the only self-elimination. Marina Perera and Nancy Hulkower also left the Golden Bachelor on their own accord instead of at a rose ceremony.
For Vassos, the decision was an easy one. Her family needed her, and she chose her family. Fans initially hoped she would return after her exit, but both Gerry Turner and viewers moved on from Vassos.
Could she return to compete in the rumored Season 2 of The Golden Bachelor? Not if speculation from Bachelor Nation fans is correct.
Did Joan Vassos Get Married?
A Bachelor Nation fan took to Reddit to share their suspicion that Joan Vassos has gotten married or engaged since leaving the show.
They shared a screenshot of a cooking video with a woman Vassos refers to as her mother-in-law.
“Did she get remarried during golden bachelor? Or is she the new golden bachelorette and they have already filmed ? I am so confused !!!,” they wrote after spotting what they thought was an engagement ring on the former reality star’s hand.
However, there was no confusion in the comments. The post received almost 50 comments and nearly every one of them said the same thing.
No, Joan Vassos didn’t get married. The woman in the video is her deceased husband’s mother. Several Redditors pointed out that most people stay close to their in-laws even after their spouse passes away.
The Washingtonian reports that John Vassos passed away in 2021 from pancreatic cancer.
Redditors also mentioned it’s not uncommon for widows to continue wearing their engagement or wedding rings.
However, the initial poster could be on to something about the Golden Bachelorette. ABC has yet to officially announce the spinoff, but that means that Joan Vassos is still a possibility for the first season’s lead.
