Bachelor Nation fans have been waiting for the senior dating spinoff for a long time. After years of teasing casting calls, the franchise finally found the perfect man for a lead: Gerry Turner, a 72-year-old widower from Indiana looking for love after his wife’s death.
The network picked twenty-two women who could possibly be the one for Turner.
After weeks of emotional rose ceremonies and self-eliminations, only two women were left: Theresa Nist and Leslie Fhima.
In a finale watched by over six million viewers, Gerry Turner gave his final golden rose to Theresa Nist and proposed to her.
The couple plan to wed in a month during a live special on ABC. The Golden Wedding airs on Thursday, January 4, 2024.
Fantasy Suites Sealed The Deal With Theresa Nist?
Many viewers – and Leslie Fhima herself – thought for sure that Gerry Turner would choose the 64-year-old former professional ice skater over Nist.
Turner briefly explained to Fhima that she wasn’t the right one for him, but he elaborated in an interview with Entertainment Tonight on when he knew Theresa Nist was.
According to Gerry Turner, the revelation came during the overnight dates when they were able to talk (and more) without cameras filming them.
He told ET‘s Denny Directo that during their time alone, Theresa Nist immediately addressed some of the things he was concerned about before he had to ask her.

Turner gave the topic of where they would live as one of the issues she brought up.
It seems his connection with Theresa Nist solidified during the Fantasy Suite dates.
Gerry Turner Breaks Silence On His Sordid Past
The Golden Bachelor premiered in late September and it was roses in the media for Gerry Turner, with article after article praising him.
However, that changed on November 29 – one day before the finale aired – when The Hollywood Reporter published a bombshell piece titled “The Golden Bachelor’s Not-So-Golden Past.”
The shocking article alleged that Gerry Turner wasn’t honest with viewers about his dating history. Several times on the show, he told the contestants that he hadn’t dated much after his wife’s passing.
However, an ex-girlfriend claimed that she dated the widower for nearly three years, and their relationship began a few months after his wife’s death.
Gerry Turner doesn’t deny her story. During his interview with ET, he was asked about his past being dissected. Turner addressed the question head-on.
“I gotta be honest,” he continued. “I just don’t give it life.”
Glancing at Theresa Nist sitting next to him, Turner said, “I have so many positive things in my life right now. According to Gerry Turner, he doesn’t want to get “bogged down” in the past.
