‘DWTS’ Fans Angry After Surprise Semifinals Twist
Fans who watched the Dancing With The Stars Season 32 semifinals last night definitely felt caught off guard!
Rules for the finale often change slightly from season to season. But in general, the final four contestants go on to compete in the finale. Ahead of the semifinals, viewers fully expected one couple to leave and for the remaining four to continue on.
But that didn’t exactly happen.
It’s clear that the DWTS producers were trying to throw audience members for a loop. However, many viewers think the twist was cruel to both Dancing With The Stars participants and viewers alike.
What exactly happened and what are fans saying about it online?
DWTS changes the game and throws everyone off
Dancing With The Stars fans knew the stakes were high when they tuned into the finale. The top five couples left it all out on the dance floor. But all night long, show hosts Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough insisted one would leave the competition once and for all.
But who would it be?
Most DWTS fans felt certain that it would be How I Met Your Mother actress Alyson Hannigan and her partner Sasha Farber on the chopping block. Although they are fun to watch, they’re still not on the level of the other four contestants.
But at the end of the night, jaws hit the floor when Alfonso and Julianne announced they were the first couple headed to the finale. One by one, the hosts announced more safe couples until two remained: front-running teams Xochitl Gomez and Val Chmerkovskiy, and Ariana Madix and Pasha Pashkov. Both Ariana and Xochitl appeared to be close to tears.
But in a shocking twist, Alfonso and Julianne announced that no one would actually leave. Everyone who performed in the semifinals would go on to compete in the finale.
The contestants were overjoyed at the revelation. But viewers at home weren’t quite so impressed.

After the big reveal, DWTS fans flocked to social media to air their grievances. Many called the move “sick” and “twisted” to torture everyone like that.

Since Ariana and Xochitl have been fan favorites since the beginning, many watched in complete disbelief as they were announced as the bottom two.

Although it likely won’t go down in DWTS history as a popular choice to end the semifinals this way, it definitely got everyone buzzing online.
