On Patrol: Live Fans Question What Dan Abrams’ Pedal Is For?
Fans of On Patrol: Live are very attentive and pay close attention to the details of the show. They notice when someone comes and goes. More so, they make suggestions for what they want to see and ask questions when they see something that sparks their interest. Recently, one viewer noticed that host, Dan Abrams has a pedal by his foot behind the desk. It made them wonder what the need for it was when he was not going anywhere or seemingly operating any equipment requiring a pedal. Therefore, a Reddit thread was started to address this issue.
They simply asked what the pedal was for. Did other Redditors have an idea as to what its purpose was or were they in the dark, as well? Admittedly, some had never even noticed it as it is easy to miss. Yet, there were some speculations and theories:
- it controls the speed of the autocue.
- It controls speed of the teleprompter. SOURCE: I’ve worked in broadcasting for 25 years.
- Broadcast Engineer checking in. It could be to roll the prompter but also it could be to talk on the intercom to the control room. Those pedals have multiple uses.
Of course, some Redditors joked that it was used by Dan Abrams to stop the other hosts from talking. Others said that it was to mute Dan himself when he told too many dad jokes. One claimed that they had asked Dan a few times on Twitter/X was its purpose was but got no response. Finally, someone shared that they move the table a lot on On Patrol: Live. Therefore, it could be for this purpose but many believed it was teleprompter related.
Pedal To The Metal
Dan Abrams has been working the studio with his pedal and some fans feel that On Patrol: Live pales in comparison to Live PD. Since it moved to Reelz, it seemingly has not been the same. Additionally, some Sheriff’s Offices have parted ways with the show. One recently left for more family time which some fans did not quite understand. However, those who work on the show have become local celebrities. Corporal Carli Drayton recently issued a message to leave her alone when she is out. Fans apparently photograph her relentlessly.
Did you ever notice the pedal or did you miss it? Let us know in the comments and watch On Patrol: Live Fridays and Saturdays on Reelz.

Is OP Live better than Live PD? I don’t think so. OP Live/Live PD is not COPS. OP Live is broadcast as it happens. No editing for time or dramatic effect. The calls are as varied as a normal day in most police depts. There’s a lot of community interaction. I much prefer our show(s) to COPS. The Hazen dept left temporarily to spend more time with their families over the holidays. No one on the forums I frequent had any problem with that. We miss them but we know they’ll be back. Other depts have left for whatever reasons, but we support the ones we have. There are a few depts on OP Live that we’ve supported since the Live PD days. And the officers are certainly entitled to private lives. What happened to Cpl Drayton is inexcusable. I hope that wasn’t a regular OP Live fan. Enjoy following the officers when they’re working and on tv, leave them alone when they’re not.
