Hallmark Has Quietly Decided On Future Of ‘Ride’ Series
Rodeo drama fans of the Hallmark series Ride have been waiting for news on Season 2 for quite some time. The feel-good network has been silent about the future of the series that stars Nancy Travis, Beau Mirchoff, and Tiera Skovbye. In addition, fan-favorite Marcus Rosner was in the series, but mainly in flashbacks.
However, they have already renewed its second new series The Way Home, and that show is currently in production for Season 2.
What is the verdict on Ride Season 2?
Hallmark has been quietly filming The Way Home Season 2. But, what is the status of Ride Season 2? Fans of the family rodeo drama finally have an answer.
On Thursday, Vulture released an article on Hallmark’s remarkable cable success, as well as an interview with EVP of Programming, Lisa Hamilton Daly.
In this piece, they included this important piece of information in parentheses. “The network has quietly decided not to renew its other drama launch this year, Ride, a network rep tells Buffering.” This seems to be the only failure that Hallmark had in an otherwise remarkable season.
That means that Ride Season 2 will not be happening. Hallmark has quietly canceled this new rodeo family drama series. There was no further explanation of why this decision was made. Likely, like all things, it was a business decision.
For the first time in over six years, Hallmark premiered not one but two series. However, only one will continue.
Why Did Hallmark Renew The Way Home?
Even before Hallmark aired The Way Home Season 1 finale episode, they announced that they renewed this series. How did this time travel family drama get renewed while Ride did not? It is likely ratings.
The article revealed that The Way Home “currently ranks among cable’s five most-watched original entertainment series this year.” Therefore, it was a no-brainer that the feel-good network renew the series that stars Andie MacDowell, Chyler Leigh, and
Did Ride suffer from comparison to the network’s successful series? Perhaps it did. But, Hallmark did not elaborate on anything about its decision about the series. This series was compared to UPtv’s Heartland and, of course, the most-watched show on cable, Yellowstone. These expectations can hurt a series that is trying to stand on its own two feet.
This is not the only Hallmark series that didn’t make it past Season 1. The When Calls The Heart spinoff When Hope Calls only had one season on the network.
It has started on Hallmark Movies Now, the network’s streaming channel. Then, the network aired it after the OG series. The ratings were decent, but there was no announcement about Season 2.
However, in 2021, GAF announced they were bringing the series back, as well as Lori Loughlin and Daniel Lissing to reprise their WCTH roles. But, the network only made two episodes of When Hope Calls for Christmas and now the series is canceled again. It appears that Hallmark’s decision to cancel was the right decision.
Ride fans, are you shocked that Hallmark decided to ax the series without giving it another chance?
