‘The Simpsons’ Iconic Villain Finally Gets What’s Coming To Him
After torturing Bart for decades, this cartoon villain finally got a taste of his own medicine in Sunday’s Treehouse Of Horror installment.
Sideshow Bob has always been a diabolical yet incompetent criminal mastermind on The Simpsons. He first appeared on the animated show in the episode “The Telltale Headz” in February 1990. But it wasn’t until the episode “Krusty Get Busted” that Sideshow Bob showed his true colors. In the episode, Bart accuses Sideshow Bob of robbing the Kwik-E-Mart and framing Krusty the Clown. After confessing his crimes, Sideshow Bob is arrested. Before being hauled away to jail, Sideshow Bob swears he will get his revenge on Bart Simpson.
Over 30 years later, Sideshow Bob is still working on getting his revenge. But that’s not from his lack of effort. Sideshow Bob has hatched countless plots to kill Bart. He has attempted just about every murderous scheme you could possibly think of, only to come up short each time. He has essentially replaced Wile E. Coyote as the most inept cartoon villain out there.
Attempting and failing to murder a young boy for over 30 years will certainly give you that reputation.
Treehouse Of Horror XXXIV
While some fans might argue that The Simpsons is well past its prime, it’s hard to dispute the show’s ability to adapt to changing times. It would be an immensely difficult task for any show to stay to try and stay relevant over the span of five decades. But for The Simpsons, they have managed to do just that. And one of the cornerstones of the show’s longevity is its annual Halloween special “Treehouse Of Horror.”
For this year’s spooktastic iteration, Treehouse Of Horror XXXIV took yet another stab at making fun of NFTs. In the opening segment “Wild Barts Can’t Be Token,” Bart becomes transformed into a living NFT and must rely on the help of Marge to help him. In “Lout Break,” Homer eats a radioactive donut that comes with some interesting consequences. But it’s the episode’s middle segment “Ei8ht” that has left fans talking.
In the segment, time has jumped forward to see an adult Lisa in her career as a true crime detective. She travels across Springfield investigating a series of grizzly murders that have left the police mystified. Meanwhile, Sideshow Bob has actually succeeded in his scheme to murder Bart and has finally squashed his adolescent adversary.
The Villain Gets His Comeuppance
Now in prison, Sideshow Bob is content with being able to accomplish his lifelong mission for revenge. He is then visited by Lisa, who is seeking help from her brother’s killer. She asks Sideshow Bob to aid in a few murder cases that she is stuck on. She claims to need Sideshow Bob’s help to be able to get inside the mind of a killer.
But unbeknownst to Sideshow Bob, Lisa is actually the one responsible for the murders that she is investigating, thanks to her split personality. With her real target now within striking distance, Lisa avenges her slain brother and finally serves up some sweet justice. She flips on some music and lets her knife do the rest of the talking.
