‘The View’ Fans Upset Over Abrupt End To Morgan Freeman Interview
Diehard fans are outraged that The View cut Morgan Freeman’s interview short during his October 25 appearance on the talk show.
Is six and a half minutes enough time to give a Hollywood legend time to speak? For many fans of The View, the answer to that question is a resounding “NO!”
On October 25, actor Morgan Freeman was brought onto the long-running talk show to discuss his Netflix docuseries Life On Our Planet.
Surrounded by hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin, Freeman was all smiles as he sat down.
“In your career that spans almost six decades, you’ve done really cool projects,” said Haines as she quickly jumped into her first question. “But this new series, Life On Our Planet, is remarkable. What drew you to this?”
Without missing a beat, Freeman interjected some of his trademark stoic humor that has made him an acting icon. “Do you want the truth or should I make something up?” said Freeman with a completely straight face before laughing it off.
Morgan Freeman Talks About His Netflix Docuseries
Freeman lends his voice as the narrator of Life On Our Planet. The docuseries takes an in-depth look at Earth’s four billion-year existence in the universe. The eight-part series is available to stream on Netflix.
Throughout the short interview, the tone remained lighthearted. Freeman gladly went into detail about his docuseries. Freeman was happy to discuss the history of the planet and now-extinct species. He seemed eager to talk about the future and the status of the planet.
The conversation then steered toward race and Hollywood’s portrayal of African Americans in the past. “I saw my first movie when I was six years old. It scared the h*** out of me,” Freeman said to the laughter of the crowd.
Freeman then took a look into the history of cinema. “Start in the 40s and move up. How many times did I see black people in the movies? And if I did see them, what were they doing?
Before Freeman could really get into the topic, the interview came to an abrupt end.
Seemingly out of nowhere, Goldberg put a stop to the interview. “I had a question, but we’ve run out of time,” said Goldberg as she abruptly chimed in. “Listen, this is extraordinary, this documentary. Please keep making all the documentaries that your fingerprints are on. We thank you for coming. You’re always welcome at this table.”
Being the consummate pro, Freeman did not appear to be taken aback whatsoever by his interview being cut short. As a Hollywood veteran with nearly 60 years of experience, it’s safe to say that he’s seen a thing or two.
The View Fans Response To The Abrupt End Of The Interview
Despite Morgan Freeman remaining all smiles, fans of the show couldn’t help but question the timing of the interview’s rapid conclusion. Many noted that Freeman seemed completely engaged in the conversation.
Users on YouTube were unafraid to share their displeasure. “How does this legend only get 6 minutes? Seriously? Wow! I’m so confused. He’s just getting started,” stated one fan upset about the duration of the interview.
Another YouTube fan was quick to question the decision to cut Freeman off. “…I was just getting into what he was saying about everything.” A third user made note of Behar’s seemingly longer leash to speak. “They have all the time in the world to let Joy ramble on with her hate filled diatribes. But not enough time to let a great, upstanding man like Morgan Freeman speak?” the user wrote.
“The view should have donated the whole show to speaking to that man. That man is one of the most in with it people that I have ever listened to,” wrote one Morgan Freeman fan.
