‘AGT’ Sued For Gross Breaches Leaving Man A Paraplegic
Known as ‘The Daredevil,’ escapist Jonathan Goodwin debuted on America’s Got Talent back in 2020. Given his outrageous stunts and ability to put himself in harm’s way, the stuntman gained a sizable following, carrying him through to the semifinal round. Although Goodwin didn’t win AGT, he did receive an invite to a new show, America’s Got Talent: Extreme. Hoping to propel himself into stardom, Goodwin rehearsed his stunt at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Sadly, the stunt went horribly wrong, landing him in the hospital and a lawsuit against AGT.
In October 2021, Jonathan Goodwin found himself suspended nearly 40 feet in the air with two cars on either side of him. Fashioned with a straitjacket, Daredevil planned to escape the jacket and fall on an airbag before the cars collided and exploded. While going over the plan numerous times, the video below shows just how bad it went. Instead of escaping, Goodwin’s stunt failed, causing the cars to slam into him. The footage even shows a ball of fire encompassing him and the two vehicles. To make matters worse, when he fell, he also missed the airbag below.
Daredevil Blames AGT For Serious Injuries
According to the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Jonathan Goodwin suffered from a”dislocated spinal cord, internal organ injuries, fractures to his legs, ribs, shoulders and extensive third-degree burns.” Due to the severity of the injuries, the escapist is now a paraplegic.
Going into detail on how the stunt failed, it seems Jonathan Goodwin is blaming AGT. The lawsuit suggested that the production failed to “implement industry safety standards.” It even mentioned that the stunt was designed in a way that it would “fail.”
Besides blaming AGT and its safety standards, the lawsuit added the production hired “incompetent individuals” and didn’t even “test the stunt without a live person after modifications were made.”
Although altering his life, Jonathan Goodwin posted a picture on his Instagram of him inside the hospital. Banged up and bruised, the stuntman seemed in high spirits, writing he “dodged the worst that a human being can.” Giving the secret to his healing process, he revealed, “Love is all you need.”
Jonathan Goodwin Not Done Yet
As for his close encounter with death, the former AGT contestant isn’t letting his injuries stop him. “There is a long road to recovery and that won’t look like what it did… but I have a lot left to do in this world.”
Garnering close to 7,000 likes, fans showered Jonathan Goodwin with love and support ahead of his long road to recovery.
