Jada Pinkett Smith Tells Her Story
In an exclusive clip from NBC News Prime-Time Special with Hoda Kotb, Jada Pinkett Smith confesses there is more to her marriage than she has previously shared. Although the exclusive interview has not aired, the wait is almost over. It will be available on October 13. Jada Pinkett Smith is sharing an update on the state of her marriage to Will Smith.
What Is Going On With Jada Pinkett Smith And Will Smith?
During new interviews, Jada Pinkett Smith reveals she and Will Smith are not together. Although fans weren’t in the loop until now, Jada also told Today that she and Will have been apart since 2016. So why did they keep this quiet? “I think just not being ready yet, still trying to figure out between the two of us how to be in partnership and in regards to how do we present that to people,” Jada told Hoda Kotb in an interview released Oct. 11. “And we hadn’t figured that out.”
Jada Pinkett Smith gave more details about what led them to go their separate ways. “Why it fractured, that’s a lot of things,” she said. “I think by the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying. I think we were both stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be.”
Is Divorce On The Horizon?
While there was a time when Jada Pinkett Smith considered divorce, she ultimately decided not to go that direction. “I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce,” she says in the upcoming NBC News Special. “We will work through whatever, and I just haven’t been able to break that promise.”
As for the future of their relationship, Jada says they are still navigating what their relationship looks like. “We’re still figuring it out,” Jada told People. “We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together. We just got deep love for each other and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us.”
Realizing They Weren’t Together
Based on this timeline, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith were separate for six years before the 2022 Oscars. At that time, Will Smith received recognition for Best Actor for his lead role in King Richard. However, it was overshadowed by his infamous slap doled out to Chris Rock for a joke about Jada’s shaved head. “I thought, ‘This is a skit,'” Jada recalled. “I was like, ‘There’s no way that Will hit him.’ It wasn’t until Will started to walk back to his chair that I even realized it wasn’t a skit.” Admittedly, Jada says after the show, she inquired if Will Smith was “Okay.” She is accepting that he is on his journey, “I’m going to be by his side,” she said, “but also allow him to have to figure this out for himself.”
