He’s A Widower
Typically, in The Bachelor franchise, the lead and the contestants are looking for their first real love, leading to marriage and children. However, Gerry Turner and many of his 22 female contestants already had all that.
For Turner, he was married to his first wife, Toni, for 43 years before she died in 2017. The couple had two children, both of whom will likely appear in this season of The Golden Bachelor.
After all, they were the ones who encouraged him to apply.

Gerry Turner is from Hudson, Indiana, and according to his friends, he’s well-liked around town. “He’s a regular here. [Gerry is] part of our family. He’s here quite a bit,” Heather Lanning told The U.S. Sun.
Where is “here”? According to Lanning, Turner is a regular diner at the Shady Nook Inn where she works. She considers him a “very good friend,” as well as a customer.
“Gerry always gets a salad. He’s not a regular drinker at the bar, more so stopping in and grabbing food, saying hi,” she said of the new reality star.
Livin’ The Lake Life
The Shady Nook Inn’s Facebook page describes it as on “Big Long Lake.” Lanning seemingly verifies that by saying that The Golden Bachelor lead is a “lake person.” He enjoys “boating, jet skiing, all of it.”
He’s even “Vice President of the Lake Association.” The U.S. Sun shared exclusive photos of the lake house.
She also revealed that Turner loves “pickleball” and “travel.”
Another friend of Gerry Turner spoke to the outlet on the condition of anonymity. Of his friend, they said, “We’re really excited for him. This couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. He’s genuine.”
What Kind Of Woman Suits Him?
The two friends of Gerry’s who gave the interview shared what they think he’s looking for in a woman. Turner previously spoke about the one rule he made for himself on the show.
Surprisingly, it wasn’t in regard to the Fantasy Suite. The friend who remained anonymous had thoughts about how Gerry Turner would handle the Fantasy Suite dates. They said, “He’s not dead! He’ll do whatever he thinks is the right thing to do.”

As for Heather Lanning, she thinks her friend needs a match who is family-orientated. “He does spend a lot of time with his daughters and grandkids so that’s important.”
However, she is confident that he will find the right woman. “He’s a very smart man. He’ll be fine.”
