To pay tribute on 9/11, the Bringing Up Bates star shared a photo of herself wearing a beige knit dress while sitting on the beach. Her eyes were shut and she had a soft smile on her face as she rested her head in her hand.

Then, she wrote, “Prayers for everyone who has lost a loved one on 9/11. Our hearts go out to you and your family.”

Because it was on her shop’s Instagram Stories, it was only visible for 24 hours. But that was more than enough time for fans to grab screenshots, repost it, and discuss it.

It’s worth noting that Josie Bates Balka has several employees in her business, so she may not have personally posted this. However, she may have approved this social media post or she could have taken it down if she didn’t want it posted.

On Redditfans reposted Josie’s 9/11 tribute. Many were stunned that she would post a photo of herself instead of one of an American flag or even a blank background. They think that it’s tone-deaf and self-centered.

Someone said, “The blissful expression like she’s thinking back on a fond memory kills me.” Others pointed out that this comes across as “inappropriate” and that she seems “full of herself.”

One Bringing Up Bates fan took this personally and said they were “offended.” They explained that their husband was working an essential job and there were no updates about when he’d be home or if there were more attacks. The fan added, “Whatever positive impression I ever had of her is now gone.”

At this point, Josie hasn’t said anything about her 9/11 post. Fans are hopeful that she will learn her lesson and be more cautious moving forward.
