Today hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb are announcing a hosting shakeup. Things are changing on NBC’s morning talk show. But how big of a switch is this? Who’s leaving, and who’s joining the cast? Keep reading for all of the details, and see how the co-hosts and fans reacted.

As we’ve reported, there have been many absences on the talk show recently. One day, Hoda left abruptly to take her daughters to school on their first day. Savannah spent some time away to attend a Taylor Swift concert as well as the US Open. Carson Daly was out for nearly a month, and Craig Melvin dipped out for a bit to go on vacation. But are any of their absences permanent?

Savannah Guthrie & Hoda Kotb announce a casting shakeup.

Fans can rest assured that all of the current Today hosts are sticking around for now. And now, they’re adding another host to the lineup. Hoda shared that September is the perfect time for “new beginnings.” The Today hosts agreed that it was time to celebrate something new.

Savannah Guthrie shared the exciting news that NBC correspondent Laura Jarrett is joining Saturday Today. She will be working alongside Peter Alexander, who currently holds down the fort on Saturdays.

On XToday shared a clip of the team celebrating this special moment with Laura. You can watch it below. To celebrate the big change, the hosts enjoyed a champagne toast.

Craig Melvin announced that it’s the start of a “new chapter” for the talk show.

Today fans react to the new addition.

On September 9, Laura made her first appearance on Saturday Today. So, she’s officially a part of the team! Fans can look forward to catching up with her and Peter Alexander on Saturdays.

On Xfans are reacting to the exciting news and sending their love to Laura. One fan said, “Congratulations Laura! I am so excited for you! You are so sharp and talented— a great addition to the anchor desk on the weekends. Can’t wait to see you kick butt with Peter!” 

Another viewer added, “Woo hoo!!! Love @LauraAJarrett. Cannot wait to watch her with @PeterAlexander on @TODAYshow Saturday!!” 

 

Libby Leist, Executive Vice President of Today, released a statement about this new change. Libby said, “Not only is she a terrific journalist, she’s also a wonderful colleague. We can’t wait to officially welcome her to Saturday TODAY.”
