‘AGT’ Fans Disgusted Over Live Act, Slammed As ‘Pure Stupidity’
On last night’s episode of America’s Got Talent, one contestant took the phrase “hot new talent” to a whole new level with a fiery act.
If somebody tuned in to America’s Got Talent at just the right time yesterday, they would have likely thought that they were watching a scorching Hollywood blockbuster. But in reality, they were checking out Ray Wold’s sizzling act.
In his act, Wold partners up with his mother, Corrine. Together, the duo showcases an array of fire-focused stunts. The mother and son team features a flaming whip, flaming knives, and a vest that is set ablaze. But their crowning achievement is their grand finale.
The fiery act that has AGT fans heated
For those too squeamish to check out the video, we got you covered.
In the duo’s finale, Wold chains himself to a tub of water and fully submerges himself inside. A member of his team then walks over with a can of an unknown substance that reads “flammable.” The team member then pours the contents of the can over a submerged Wold. Corrine then steps in front of the tub of water and lights the whole thing on fire with what looks like a homemade flamethrower.
So not only is Wold now chained underwater, but he has a fiery inferno blazing on top of him as well. After a few tense moments and some shots of the shocked judges, Wold emerges from his potentially watery tomb. As he springs up, Wold’s back is fully ablaze. But he doesn’t seem bothered in any way. He is joined in hands by his mother and the duo take a bow in front of the applauding crowd.
The split reaction from AGT judges and fans
While the crowd seemed thrilled by Wold’s death-defying tease with fire, the judges were split in their feelings for the act. Judge Sofia Vergara was in awe over the mother and son team. “It’s the craziest pairing I’ve ever seen in my life. It’s also…very, very inspirational. I want to be you guys with my son Manolo in the future!”
However, Howie Mandel wasn’t quite as pleased with the act. Mandel knocked the stunt for its reckless play with fire. “If you love your mom, you don’t set her on fire…it’s just wrong,” Mandel said as boos rained down on him from the audience.
Despite the harsh treatment from the people in the crowd, Mandel wasn’t alone in voicing his displeasure. AGT fans quickly chimed in and slammed Wold’s fiery act on X.
“As a burn survivor, I cannot watch someone who is on fire,” replied one comment under AGT’s post of Wold’s act.
“I can’t imagine a worse time for a fire act. Ray Wold & Mom, crazy,” quipped another comment.
A third user did not hesitate to admonish the timing of the act. “Simon Cowell’s comment on #AGT about watching a mom light her son on fire was horrible timing! Over on Maui they are digging up families who were holding each other while burning to death. It is not the time for fire jokes!”
While Wold and his mother made no mention of the fires that wreaked havoc on Maui two weeks ago, it may be a little too hard for others to ignore.
What do you think? Did Ray Wold and his mother go too far with their fiery act? Do you think the act would have been better received during another time? Perhaps you feel that AGT should shoulder the blame? Let us know in the comments.
