Tragic breaking news as one of the most famous dogs on the Internet, the viral meme dog named Cheems, has been confirmed dead by his owners at the age of 12. It was about 14 hours ago that his owners took to Instagram to share the tragic news with the dog’s 715K followers.

In a lengthy post explaining what happened and paying tribute to Cheems also known as Pup Balltze, Balltze, or Ball Ball, the dog’s family encouraged his followers not to be sad. Instead, Cheems’ owners asked his followers to allow his legacy to live on by continuing to find joy in all of the viral memes he inspired over the years.

The Instagram post included 10 beautiful photos of Balltze. The caption also shed some light on his cause of death. So, what happened to Cheems? Keep reading for the details.

Viral Meme Dog Cheems Dead At Age 12

Cheems was put to sleep on Friday morning to receive his final thoracentesis surgery. Originally, his owners had planned to arrange chemotherapy or some other form of treatment following the surgery. Sadly, however, Cheems never woke back up following his surgery.

His owners penned in a beautiful tribute as they told the pup’s fans how they could honor Cheems and mourn his passing in the best way: “Don’t be sad, please remember the joy that Balltze brought to the world. A Shiba Inu with a round smiling face connecting you and me, he has helped many people during the pandemic and brought a lot of joy to many of you, but now his mission has completed.”

 I believe he is running freely in the sky and having a lot of delicious food with his new friends. He will always be inside my heart. I hope he can continue to bring joy to everyone in the online world, that’s my only humble request

He Received A Spectacular Send-Off With Tons Of Memes

A quick scroll through any social media platform, reveals fans of the pup were happy to pay tribute in the way the owners requested. Memes of Cheems involving his passing poured onto social media platforms. Those who fell in love with this dog used the memes to cope with his passing. Some even opted to just reshare some of their favorite Cheemsburger memes.

It was back in 2017 when this adorable canine landed in the spotlight. He went viral after his owners shared a funny photo of him displaying his love for cheeseburgers. The viral photo and his adorable love for cheeseburgers even inspired his nickname “Cheemsburger.”
