Lil Tay & Brother NOT Dead, Social Media Hacked — Hoax Victim

Yesterday, shocking news broke that both Lil Tay and her brother had passed away. This news broke after an Instagram post (that has since been deleted) reportedly contained a statement from the family confirming their passing. After the news broke, outlets rushed to reach out to Lil Tay’s father and her former manager for statements or confirmation.

Lil Tay’s father refused to speak to the press. And, her ex-manager stated that they could not confirm or deny whether Lil Tay and her brother were dead. With those close to the teenage rapper refusing to issue a statement, the rumor grew legs as more outlets reported on the death.

Speaking to TMZ, Lil Tay herself wanted to make one thing very clear. Both she and her brother were very much alive. They were the victims of a death hoax. And, the past 24 hours were very traumatic for both of them.

I want to make it clear that my brother and I are safe and alive, but I’m completely heartbroken, and struggling to even find the right words to say. It’s been a very traumatizing 24 hours. All day yesterday, I was bombarded with endless heartbreaking and tearful phone calls from loved ones all while trying to sort out this mess.”

Her statement continued as she tried to unravel the details of the hoax: “My Instagram account was compromised by a 3rd party and used to spread jarring misinformation and rumors regarding me, to the point that even my name was wrong. My legal name is Tay Tian, not ‘Claire Hope.'”

Fans Still Have Questions

Lil Tay tells TMZ she has Meta to thank for helping her get control of her Instagram account back. Likewise, Meta also took down the post that started the death hoax. It, however, looks like it has been nearly 200 days since she last posted on her profile.

Fans of the social media influencer, however, remain perplexed as to why it took so long for a statement to be issued refuting the death hoax.

TMZ speculates that many of her friends and family members likely refused to issue statements because they had no idea what was going on with the young rapper.
