In the past few weeks, fan forums for The View have turned to talk of a new lineup of hosts. It all started with Whoopi Goldberg explaining to viewers why they can still work amid the writer and actor strike in Hollywood. Fans then started calling for Whoopi to strike with her colleagues, since she has an impressive portfolio as an actor.

Since then, fans have ramped up their calls for Whoopi to be replaced and for the producers of the show to consider a new lineup. Joy Behar, for instance, has been on the show since it first launched in 1997. And some fans believe it’s time for new blood and a new perspective. According to Joy, they may not have long to wait. During a segment last week, Joy suggested that she does not plan to work forever and retirement may be on the horizon.

While she didn’t give an exact date, it’s a sign that the show may be facing a new future sometime soon. Could that future be now, with the replacement of Sunny?

Sunny Hostin has been absent for a few episodes, and they brought in a popular reality TV star to replace her: Rachel Lindsay.

Rachel is more than a television personality and former Bachelorette, she’s a fan favorite. In online forums, she’s often referred to as “refreshing” and “friendly.”  This has led to some serious discussion that fans would like to see her become a more permanent fixture on the show. But that won’t be happening yet, at least not in lieu of Sunny. On Monday’s show, Joy revealed that Sunny was out again, but that she would be back next Monday.

The question about which hosts should remain on the show and which should be replaced has been a hot topic recently. Some fans call a change of hosts “long past due.” Of the long-time hosts, Whoopi Goldberg is perhaps the most controversial. She recently opened up to viewers that she stays on the show for a very specific reason. According to Whoopi, she joined because co-creators Bill Geddie and Barbara Walters specifically asked her to. And she remains out of respect for the duo, who have both passed away. As a result, it’s hard to say when or if she would choose to retire.

Sunny, at least, seems like she’s sticking around for a while. But if fans have their say, Rachel Lindsay may become a regular. Who she could replace is anyone’s guess, but the campaign online to push for Host Rachel is growing in scope.
