Deon Derrico Breaks Silence Over Kate Gosselin Controversy
Collin Gosselin, his dad Jon, and his mom, Kate Gosselin from TLC’s Jon & Kate Plus 8 took up a lot of headline space recently, and now, Deon Derrico of DDWTD had something to say about it. He probably relates to raising many kids as he and Karen produced 14 of them during their life together.
Collin Gosselin Made A Lot Of Allegations About Kate
When Deon saw the reports about the allegations made by Kate’s son which arrived via VICE TV’s Dark Side of the 2000s, he already felt familiar with the story of the reality TV family. In fact, he’d taken the time to check out some episodes of the Jon & Kate Plus 8 show. Everyone knows that news in the tabloids is easily able to make people change their minds, or sway an audience, even with little evidence. So when he broke his silence about the toxic tale of Kate, her ex, her son Collin, and the rest of the sextuplets, he didn’t rush to slap at Kate.
Collin Gosselin delivered a believable story and VICE TV relied on his dad Jon, and his sextuplet sister Hannah, to back up what he said. Notably, Jon’s twins, Mady and Cara, and the other sextuplets, Leah, Alexis, Aaden, and Joel were not interviewed. Neither was Kate, who stood accused of the alleged abuse. Naturally, many TLC fans already suspected something didn’t sit right with Kate sending her son to a mental health institution for three years. So, many followers familiar with the story berated Kate.

Collin Gosselin Won Sympathy From TLC Fans – Kate reacted
Initially, Kate kept silent but as fury turned to severe trolling on her social media, she and her daughter Mady both made public statements. Interestingly, both of them counter-claimed the 19-year-old’s allegations of a violently abusive childhood, with their own versions of his personality. Clearly, Jon’s entire family became damaged over the years. So is there even one of them who can call what went down a victory? Even if it’s simply a hollow one? Fans soon forget, move on, and seldom cast back an eye on the pain left behind.
Deon Derrico, who with his wife Karen, also raise multiple sets of multiples took time to react. In fact, he waited until Kate’s official statement about Collin Gosselin arrived on her Instagram. Possibly, he waited for signs that his own family might get dragged into the messy affair. After all, it’s not beyond belief that might happen. Already, TLC fans start comparing OutDaughered mom, Danielle Busby to Kate.
Deon Derrico Uses His Platform For Good
The DDWTD family didn’t arrive on TV without any controversy, but expectations of a massive family looking for handouts soon fell away. The family comes over as hardworking, wholesome, and essentially good, and highlights the responsibilities of parenting well. Actually, his family checks a whole lot of missing boxes that seem to be in short supply in 2023. Stepping back from the toxicity, The Ashley’s Reality Roundup noted that Deon replied to Kate’s post. The outlet cited him as saying, “Kate, no one truly understands…the magnitude of mental illness!”
Next, he talked about how those outside of the situation involving Collin Gosselin and mental health issues can’t actually relate. Taking a conciliatory attitude, he noted, “It’s a very tuff thing to deal with!” So, he recommended she stand fast because “many have opinions when they’ve never ever been in your shoes!” Careful to not get involved directly, he added, “I hate it for all of you’re (sic) family that’s involved and I’m not in anyway (sic) taking anyone’s side.”
Adding Coals To The Fire?
Clearly, Deon Derrico feels that the family issues can never fully be known, and furthermore, he believes, “…it’s none of our business!” That could be taken as a direct message to the entire family. Perhaps they would all be better off talking to each other instead of to the media. After all, making everything so public is hardly likely to bring reconciliation, and might only exacerbate an already toxic situation.
One thing that TLC fans can likely take as a given, is that Deon Derrico probably has Collin Gosselin and his entire family on his prayer list.
