‘Jeopardy!’ Season 40 On Chopping Block Amid Writer’s Strike?

Jeopardy - Feature

Fans of Jeopardy! have real concerns about if the game show faces any risks because of the ongoing writer’s strike. More specifically, is Season 40 on the chopping block?

Jeopardy! Relies Heavily On A Team Of Writers

As fans of the long-running NBC game show know, it relies heavily on a team of skilled writers who dedicate a lot of time to crafting stimulating clues and categories. So, it is understandable for viewers at home to have concerns about this core element of creating fresh content for the game show getting interrupted by the ongoing writer strike.

In fact, as Tv Shows Ace has previously reported, some fans have speculated the writer’s strike has already caused issues for the game show.

There has been some chatter among fans that the clues have been weird and the categories have been unnecessarily difficult. And, they believe the lack of proper writers is the problem. One of the producers of the show, however, shut the chatter down noting that they had a lot of content written prior to the strike that they were working with.

The Game Show Is Airing Reruns As Mayim Steps Down?

As fans of the game show know, Mayim Bialik made the difficult decision to step down as the host to stand with the writers during their strike. So, Season 39 of Jeopardy! will come to a close with Ken Jennings, 49, as the host. Now, this didn’t hit fans too hard as many viewers don’t particularly care for Mayim as a host.

Per The Sun, the final new episode of Jeopardy! will air on July 28th.

The network has already taken to social media to announce that “Jeopardy! Rewatch” will be taking place after that. During Jeopardy! Rewatch, viewers at home will get to enjoy old episodes of the game show.

Has Jeopardy! Been Renewed For Season 40?

According to Tv InsiderJeopardy! has already been renewed for Season 40. The new season was slated to premiere on September 11th. Unfortunately, the WGA strike is causing problems for the series and the executives are being forced to make some hard decisions. The executives are currently facing the real possibility that they will have to push back the Season 40 Premiere because of the strike.

Sadly, this new report from Tv Insider does confirm that fans’ concerns for the future of the series are not unfounded. There was already enough material created for Season 39 to air to completion. But, it does not sound like the higher-ups have what they need to make Season 40 work if the strike continues. So, there is a strong possibility the network could end up extending the rewatch and continue airing reruns until the writers’ strike comes to an end.
