An irritated Today Show host Hoda Kotb asked producers to shut off her colleagues’ microphones on Tuesday.

The moment came when Hoda’s co-stars seemed to get off track in a sidebar during one of her segments. Annoyed, she asked producers to cut their mics so she could continue what she and her fellow table hosts were doing. Here’s what happened and why Hoda asked producers to intervene.

Today Tackles TikTok Phenomenon Known As ‘Girl Dinner’

On Tuesday, the Today Show’s official Twitter shared a video of the segment known as “Talker.” 58-year-old host Hoda Kotb was joined by co-hosts Sheinelle Jones, 45, Jenna Bush Hager, 41, and Savannah Guthrie, 51. The four were gathered together to share their own versions of a new TikTok trend.

They all shared their thoughts on the new TikTok trend and phenomenon known as “Girl Dinner.” Girl Dinner is a phrase that describes how people, often women, will eat leftovers as a meal in place of cooking new food for themselves. Oftentimes, those leftovers are a combination of unrelated meals.

The co-hosts all shared their favorite Girl Dinner meals. Jenna’s Girl Dinner consisted of cheese, crackers, veggies, fruit, and Reeses cups. Savannah opted for cheese, crackers, and a large chocolate chip cookie. Hoda chose crackers. Half of them had melted cheese, and the other half had jelly. In addition to her crackers, Hoda chose peanut butter and a coconut popsicle. Sheinelle opted for cheese quesadillas and salsa.

As the women talked about their Girl Dinner options, producers cut in to include male co-hosts, Carson Daly and Al Roker.

Irritated Hoda Kotb Asks Today Producers To Cut Co-Hosts’ Mics

And that’s apparently when things went a little sour for Hoda Kotb.

Carson Daly and Al Roker were on another part of the Today Show set, eating their own version of Girl Dinner. They called it “Boy Dinner” and it consisted of pizza and White Castle cheeseburger sliders. The two chowed down on their favorites and discussed the merits of Boy Dinner. Producers showed them briefly, before returning to the women’s segment. But Hoda found herself irritated when producers showed a split screen. Because while the screen was split, Carson and Al’s discussion was overpowering what the women were discussing.

An aggravated Hoda asked, “Are they still talking?” She then told producers, “Kill their mic.” Producers quickly returned viewers to the women’s discussion and Carson and Al were left to eat their Boy Dinner in peace.

Do you think it was rude of producers to cut to Al Roker and Carson Daly? Or did Hoda Kotb take it all a little too personally? Sound off in the comments. And catch The Today Show crew on NBC weekdays at 7 AM EST.
