To give their kids a solid education while creating a close bond with each of them, Karen and Deon Derrico decided to homeschool. Doubling Down With the Derricos may have gotten a glimpse of this on the show. But others might be shocked to learn that this couple has the time and energy to teach 14 kids at home.
In an interview with Distractify, the mama of 14 explained part of her and Deon’s desire to homeschool. She said, “One way for bonding is through homeschool. That’s the time when we find their strengths, likes and dislikes. We make the time by having family meetings and discussing what we are working on and how we as a family will support that individual.”
Also in the interview, Karen offered additional details about personalizing her kids’ homeschool education. She said, “Overall, we just incorporate their wants and desires into our everyday living. If this one loves cooking, we bring them in the kitchen and make an announcement that this particular child helped cook. They love the recognition.”

Deon and Karen’s kids are at all different ages and stages, which can’t make homeschooling easy. While Darian is 17 years old, Karen and Deon are also raising triplet three-year-olds. They have nearly a dozen kids between those two ages, so there’s quite a range for them to tackle when it comes to both parenting and education. But they’ve found ways to make their lives less complicated.
