Duggar Family Makes Problematic Decision Amid Docuseries
The Duggar family has made a problematic decision amid the release of the docuseries all about them. On June 2, Amazon Prime Video released Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets, which offers a closer look at the famous family and their religious beliefs. This has been bad news for Jim Bob and Michelle and their 19 kids. Now, they’ve made a problematic decision while still in the spotlight in response to the docuseries. What happened?
Shiny Happy People is a pretty negative portrayal of Jim Bob, Michelle, and their 19 kids.
In the new four-part docuseries, viewers get a closer look at Jim Bob and Michelle’s lives with their kids. The series examines the Institute of Basic Life Principles (IBLP), which the family has been a part of for years. There are many harmful practices within the religious organization. Some of the IBLP survivors even came forward to share their stories.
In response to the docuseries premiering on Amazon Prime Video, the family issued a statement about how “derogatory” it is. Now, they’ve done something else that might not have been the best decision at this time.
The Duggar family makes a problematic choice amid the backlash.
On May 29, 2023, just a couple of days before the docuseries’ release date, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar shared a new blog post. In their post, they revealed that Johannah and Jackson Duggar had graduated high school. The blog post states:
“We thank the Lord for the completion of another academic year, and for giving us the opportunity to invest in the lives of our children, and our newest graduates, Jackson and Johannah!”
Then, they added, “It was a wonderful time for us to reflect on the remarkable individuals they have become as they begin the next phase of their lives.”
However, in the past, the Duggar family has mentioned that their 19 kids have been homeschooled through the Advanced Training Institute program. ATI is currently under fire amid Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets. The religious homeschool curriculum is a part of the IBLP and primarily teaches religious classes and neglects other areas, as shown in the docuseries. What has come to light is controversial and problematic.
This update from Jim Bob and Michelle seems to be proof that they are still very much involved in the IBLP and the ATI. Despite the backlash and controversy, they are continuing to prove that they have not changed. And they don’t appear to be hiding their involvement in both the IBLP and the ATI.
