Breaking news for fans of CNN as CEO and Chairman Chris Licht is OUT following the network’s stormy year. As CNN reports, the chairman and CEO’s brief tenure with the network was stained in a way he just couldn’t recover from. As a result, his departure from the network is being confirmed.

David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, sat down with CNN staff during the daily editorial call this morning to confirm that after a discussion with Chris Licht, it was decided that he would be cutting ties with the network.

His exit from the network follows on the heels of the 15,000-word profile being published at The Atlantic detailing the turbulent year for the network with extremely low ratings and horrible employee morale. After the article was published, Chris Licht did apologize to his staff at CNN on Monday. He claimed that he didn’t recognize the version of himself being portrayed in the article. And, he was deeply sorry for the distractions he caused.

In response to the article, Chris stated that the situation was “tremendously humbling,” and he planned to fight to win back the trust of his CNN staff.

David Zaslav says that Chris’ job with the network was never an easy one and he had an “amazing career” during his short time with the network. He, however, added that things just didn’t work out and it was “unfortunate” how it played out.

For a number of reasons things didn’t work out and that’s unfortunate. It’s really unfortunate. And ultimately that’s on me. And I take full responsibility for that.”

He Has Not Issued A Statement Yet

At this time, Chris Licht has not issued a statement on his official departure from the network. Considering he was “humbled” and ready to “fight like h*ll” two days ago, it can only be assumed he wasn’t too happy about having to split from the network.

“Morale amongst CNN employees apparently plummeted to an all-time low following the disastrous town hall, which was packed with Trump supporters, and allowed him to spew lie after lie, virtually unchecked.” A tweet penned in response to the sudden news of his departure from the network.

His exit from CNN is trending on Twitter as many react to the shocking news:

  • “It appears that Chris Licht’s and Trump’s propaganda maneuver has resulted in a significant backfire for Chris.”
  • “He’s out. Chris Licht fired at CNN. Under his one-year reign as CEO, CNN’s ratings plummeted into the cellar, and he practically single-handedly destroyed the network’s reputation.”
  • “It’s sad he lasted this long. He should have been fired immediately after the disastrous Trump Townhall.”
