Lisa Vanderpump landed in some pretty hot water when she seemingly spit in Ariana Madix’s face and sided with Tom Sandoval amid the cheating scandal. In fact, some fans ran with Lisa’s defense of Tom and speculated she was in some sort of feud with Ariana that caused the two to unfollow each other on Instagram.
Feeling the heat from her clear show of support for Tom Sandoval after he cheated on Ariana, Lisa Vanderpump is explaining why. Why did she seemingly spit in Ariana’s face and choose to side with Tom?
Why Lisa Vanderpump Spit In Ariana’s Face & Supported Tom?
Lisa Vanderpump sat down with E! News a few days ago to clear the air on the backlash against her following what viewers are home perceived to be a clear display of support for Tom.
The Bravo personality told the outlet exclusively that she did NOT side with Tom Sandoval and she does not condone cheating. She added: “I definitely condemned what he did.”
The Bravo personality, however, proceeded to remind everyone that people make mistakes. And, it would be beneath her to write Tom Sandoval off because he had an affair and because of the poor way he handled things.
“You know, I can’t write him off as a person because he had an affair. The way he handled it, yes, of course.”

She refused to pile on the hate
At the end of the day, Lisa acknowledged that it didn’t matter what she said or how she handled things. She was never going to be able to please everyone. She, however, didn’t regret comforting Tom when he became emotional. Because he was still a person. He was just a person who made some poor choices. Lisa Vanderpump explained that she refused to pile it on as Tom was getting enough hate from everyone else.
She continued to explain: That’s not what I’m not trying to do. I’m trying to tell the truth. Also, I feel like a mother to some of these children. So, when he’s been lambasted by the whole world, what am I going to do pile on? No, I’m going to try and have a modicum of—not empathy, I don’t have empathy—but a modicum of hope. Maybe for the future.”
Switching gears and talking about the future of Vanderpump Rules, Lisa acknowledged things were going to get “complicated” with the future of the series. She, however, also pointed out that this was never a show with a fairy tale ending.
