A Million Little Things subtle details some missed

A lot of tears were shed Wednesday night as A Million Little Things fans said goodbye to their favorite characters. After five seasons the show wrapped up and went out with a bang. The show’s final minutes showed fans a glimpse into how life is in the future. However, as the final scenes played out, there were numerous little details that perhaps some missed.

TV Insider shared what show creator DJ Nash had to say about the little details they included and more thoughts on the finale. First of all, for those that do not know, James Roday Rodriguez co-wrote the finale episode. James of course plays beloved Gary.

On to the small details, the writers put in the last minutes of the show. During the final minutes, fans saw what life would be like 15 years into the future. Everyone sees that life moved on. Javi is now 16 and learning to drive. Danny is with a partner. Sophie is still with Tyrell and expecting a baby. Greta and Katherine used Greta’s frozen eggs to have a baby.

Their daughter’s name is Lana. Charlie is also there and would be somewhere near 19 or 20 years old. Theo is also there with the crew. Plus, Rome is seen wearing a Sophie Dixon concert tour t-shirt. The back lists the cities she has been to and says it is 2037. Maggie is dating and mentions it while visiting Gary’s grave. By this point, Colin has passed away as well and Maggie and Javi have a new dog in their life.

Another few small details are at the hockey game. DJ Nash is actually the man who stops to help Javi and smiles at him. Of course, Javi is thinking about his dad Gary saying when a stranger smiles at him there is a good chance it is him.

The writers also shared that the hockey player who scored was number 87 which is the number of episodes there were throughout the A Million Little Things series.

Things in the finale that were James Roday Rodriguez’s ideas

James commented during this interview that he did contribute a few small details that made the cut in the finale. One of those was Gary’s dog Colin being close to him throughout the episode. Fans lost it when Colin whimpered when Gary passed.

The other contribution he made was the fart jokes between him and Deliah. Since they had always had a relationship like siblings he thought this would be a funny way for things to go.

In the end, this ending was how DJ Nash had always envisioned it. He knew he wanted to begin the episode with a suicide and then conclude with an assisted suicide. They shared that James or Gary knew his fate around the end of Season 1.
