‘Days of Our Lives’ Camila Banus Exits After Failed Negotiations
Days of Our Lives star Camila Banus is leaving the soap. The actress, who is best known for her role as Gabi DiMera, recently admitted that she is looking to extend her resume in the entertainment industry. However, Camila did also say that she wanted to stay on the show, but is forced to exit after her failed negotiations with the soap’s producers.
Gabi Hernandez has long been a fan favorite on Days of Our Lives. She became Gabi DiMera after she married Stefan DiMera (Brandon Barash). For the longest time, Gabi tried to gain full control of DiMera Enterprises with the other DiMera siblings trying to pull her down. But Gabi managed to show everyone just how ruthless and calculating she can be, too. Days of Our Lives is certainly not going to be the same without Camila Banus in Salem.
Days of Our Lives Camila Banus Exits After Failed Negotiations
In an interview with The Wrap, Camila confirmed her departure. She admitted that with all of the changes that have occurred behind the scenes at Days of Our Lives, it was her time to move on, too. Just last year the hit soap moved from NBC to the network’s online streaming service, Peacock.
Speaking about the move, Camila said, “Although it’s been wonderful and we’ve had a super great reception, for me, I felt like that was kind of like the initial start for changes happening in general. And I kind of just saw that as a sign for me to start the next chapter in my life.”
Will Gabi DiMera Be Recast On Days of Our Lives?
Camila also hinted that she did want to stay on Days of Our Lives. Unfortunately, her contract negotiations did not go as she had hoped. She further explained, “I was, honestly, open to renegotiating a certain type of shooting schedule. So I would have a little bit more time off. But they didn’t go for it. And certain other factors that were involved that they didn’t go for.”
The producers of Days of Our Lives have not said whether the character will be recast or killed off. Camila’s last day on the set of the show was on April 28th. Because Days of Our Lives shoots six months in advance, fans won’t get to find out about Gabi’s fate until later this year.
