Tom Bergeron Was In The Dark About Len Goodman’s Passing
Dance fans around the world were heartbroken to learn about Len Goodman’s passing this week. Over the last several days, countless memorial posts started popping up all over social media.
However, one of Len’s close associates actually didn’t hear about his passing right away. Former DWTS host Tom Bergeron recently revealed he was completely in the dark about Len’s death. Sadly, he learned the news in an incredibly heartbreaking way.
Tom Bergeron didn’t hear about Len’s passing right away
Although Len Goodman and Tom Bergeron had both formally left the series, they spent over a decade onscreen together. There were many seasons full of fun, laughter, and a heartfelt appreciation for ballroom dance.
“I woke up this morning to a text from my sister, and it said, ‘Sorry to hear about Len,’ and that’s the first that I had heard or read about it, so then I went online and saw the numerous stories of his passing,” Tom admitted to ET this week.
Len officially retired at the end of DWTS Season 31. His health was likely in decline at the time and he knew he needed to step back. The long-time ballroom judge passed away in hospice from bone cancer, surrounded by his loved ones.
Although Len Goodman is no longer living, his memory will live on for his fans and friends. Tom Bergeron had no shortage of favorite memories to share with ET.
“That smile, that twinkle in the eye. Grouchiness that he would kind of ratchet up for TV. I would think of times when — ’cause his critiques were always 100 percent honest, but he would ratchet up when doing a commercial break,” Tom shared. “He’d call me over and go, ‘That was good, wasn’t it?’ ‘Oh yeah, that was good, yeah.’ The grouchy part was really more show than his actual personality, I think.”
The former DWTS host went on to say that it was a “10 from Len” that each contestant desired the most. Without a doubt, Len Goodman’s presence will be sorely missed in the ballroom.
The former host misses his friends, but won’t return to DWTS
Tom Bergeron was probably upset when DWTS let him go, but he always kept things classy. He even spoke respectfully of his replacement Tyra Banks when she revealed she was also leaving the series.
Tom’s respect for others and reliability are just a few things that made him so popular on Dancing With The Stars. Several viewers hoped he would return after Tyra announced her exit, but execs decided to bring in Julianne Hough instead.
At the end of the day, it seems like Tom Bergeron sorely misses his friends, but has no intention to return to the series.
