‘Gold Rush’ Season 14 Looking At Bringing Back Fred Lewis

One of the biggest fan complaints about the recent season of Gold Rush was about Fred Lewis. While he seemed like a nice inspirational story at first, the former military medic never seemed to get his feet off the ground. By the end of the season, he had the worst take of any of the miners the show followed.

However, there are now rumors that Gold Rush wants to bring Fred Lewis back next season. Here is what we know.

Gold Rush wants Fred Lewis back for next season

In a recent Reddit thread, one Redditor posted that they received some information, some of it already publically confirmed, about the next season of Gold Rush. First up, Rick Ness is coming back, which we already confirmed here. Rick, Parker Schnabel, and Tony Beets will make next season much more profitable than this season ended up being for the gold miners.

Second, there will be some budget cuts for the show from Discovery, but this will affect the crews for the miners. This means that neither Fred’s crew nor the Clayton Brothers’ crew will be back for Season 14. They might still be mining, but they won’t appear on the show.

However, the biggest news is that Discovery is trying to keep Fred Lewis on the show. Whether this means putting him with a new crew – one that might be more experienced and help him improve – or putting him with one of the other miners remains to be known.

Rick Ness is returning next season to Gold Rush

Bringing back Fred Lewis would almost assuredly mean that the Clayton Brothers are finished with the show. This is a little disappointing. While their story was disjointed this season, seeing them doing a lot of things other than mine, they still finished the season with more gold in their haul than Fred.

The reason it is one or the other is that Rick Ness is returning next season. With Parker Schnabel and Tony Beets not going anywhere, that means bringing back Fred means the Clayton Brothers will either leave or team up with one of the other miners.

The news that Rick was returning hit in January when his ex-fiance and current girlfriend Leese M. Arie said that the plans were for him to return to the show. It was then confirmed this week when news hit that Rick was hiring for his crew. He will be back next season on Gold Rush.

However, with Fred Lewis also possibly returning, it could make him look even worse. Parker and Tommy are well-oiled machines and will continue to succeed at a high level. Rick should also once again see high levels of success, albeit with much more drama than the other two.

That leaves Fred, who hasn’t seemed to learn anything over his seasons on the show.

Do you think Fred Lewis should return for the next season of Gold Rush? Do you think his struggles help or hurt the entertainment value of the show? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

  1. Dump Fred, he’s too frustrating to watch. What a dumpster fire. Due his crew a favor and let them get a real job that actually earns money.

  2. Fred reminded me of Todd Hoffman. He was in way over his head and I felt sorry for he crew. He didn’t help the show at all, but it didn’t stop me from watching Gold Rush.

    1. Ditch Fred. He should’ve worked for other miners 1st to see all sides of the operation before striking out on his own. His cluelessness is irritating so I fast forward every time his segment is on. The Claytons have a better chance of hitting gold & actually know what they’re doing so when problems crop up they have some idea how to bush fix. Fred flounders until 1 of his team figures it out for him.

  3. Forget Fred and his misfit team nothing worth watching they’re Todd 2.0 Dumpster-Fire bring back the young guns Clayton Brothers !! But you all know Discovery they careless about their viewers!

  4. Please don’t bring Fred back, I fast forwarded when ever he came on really I just cringed when I saw him sorry but no please don’t bring him back

  5. Bring the young bucks back. Hard working Family, Have a good story if Discovery tells it
Fred a nice guy, His team same the same. But no one making money mining..
Better off with a Go-Fund Account. I would help
at least we can Thank all of them for protecting our wonderful country.
But As Miners they have to Go..
    Bring the Clayton’s Back.
Just my Opinion. Sorry if I hurt someone feeling..

    1. I agree, bring the Clayton brothers back. A great inspiration seeing brothers working together in the hope of helping the family. A great American story.

  6. Fred Lewis should join rick and learn how to mine, they both have small crews, they should join forces and it would make a good show.

  7. Hell Yea! Bring Fred back! what he is doing for the mental health of ex servicemen and women is amazing. He just needs at least one experienced foreman to help him stop making rookie errors.

  8. This is reality TV and that reality should reflect that not all gold miners are successful. Fred didn’t detract from the show at all. In fact, I like seeing mine operations at different stages of development and operators with varying backgrounds and expertise. Much more interesting to see those struggles in comparison to more veteran miners like Tony and Parker – so yes keep Fred and the Clayton brothers. This show still captures my attention even after 13 seasons!

    1. Exactly couldnt agree more on this. The big moguls makings tons gets boring, I love seeing the struggle and hustle on the come up.

    2. Risk/Reward This is reality TV. Whether scripted or not, life is more a blend of pass/fail. If a particular character is not your cup of tea, then don’t watch. Because someone doesn’t rise to your level of success, there is no reason to disrespect his level of success. How many of you viewers realize that many of the most successful people on this planet, have lost everything not once but many times before they made it big. Shame on you, to all of you that disrespect anyone that tries to reach for the stars and maybe fumbles along the way!! I can feel Fred’s struggle, I started with nothing, made many mistakes, learned, fixed, and grew into a successful business for 24 years, and retired! I lived my dream. Support his dream! We should always support one another.

  9. My take on Fred is that his optimism and can-do attitude has always been on a collision course with the realities of marginal ground and worn out equipment. If he started out with good ground, better equipment, and probably an experienced foreman on his team, he’d probably do OK. But man has he learned a few hard lessons these past seasons. I hope he stays in the show and eventually finds some level of success.

  10. Every circus needs a clown to try and keep the show going between the real acts that people have come to see…But, you can only watch so much tripping , falling, having the flowers on their lapels squirt you in the face before you have to quit watching….. Yes the commodore of former armed forces personnel is awesome, but Fred isn’t doing them any service by having to come to Canada and fail. Mining successfully is more then this man is capable of, it’s not entertaining to see such failure everytime…..

  11. Fred is so frustrating I think his crew would benefit from working in a proper mining environment and not one held together with parcel tape and silicone. He doesn’t even keep the most basic of spare parts on stock and has to wait weeks or travel for days just to get a belt etc

  12. Fred the fail
as soon as his part in the show comes on you know it will not end well and after a time becomes BORING life is full of humdrum times for use mortals and to have to watch someone else fail is not exciting .
you don’t watch F1 to see how comes last GOLD IS EXCITING

  13. You people that are bashing Fred are despicable. Fred and his crew fought for this country and risked they’re lives doing it. What he is doing is a form of therapy for himself and his crew. Sometimes it’s not all about the money but I think this year Fred and his crew are going to do well. I too am a veteran and served three tours in Afghanistan and one in Iraq so I know where all these guys are coming from.
