Netflix is making dreams come true with a decision to bring back the classic Power Ranges for a new special.
Nostalgic History
Multiple generations have grown up with the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers at this point. Since the Season 1 premiere with the original cast all the way back in 1993, fans have been watching them fight various kaiju and sci-fi evils.
Rangers have come and Rangers have gone throughout the decades. Many are still possessive of the Ranger team they had when they were young and watching the show.
Netflix has the solution for you if you miss those original cast members. The name is Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: Once & Always, and it’s bringing back a lot of classic names.
The Return Of Power Rangers
The reunion special comes via the 30th anniversary of the premiere of the original show back in 1993. Last year fans got confirmation that a special would be happening with at least two of the original rangers. Now, we finally have a trailer showing David Yost and Walter Emanuel Jones, the original Blue and Black Rangers, back in uniform.
Aside from Yost and Jones, there are other legacy Ranger actors returning. They are Johnny Yong Bosch, Steve Cardenas, Catherine Sutherland, and Karan Ashley. None of them were the original actors for any of the Power Rangers. But they become various Rangers in the original series as the first cast gradually left the show.
We do have confirmation that none of the other original Rangers will be returning for this special. Two of them, of course, can’t return because of their tragic deaths. The original Yellow Ranger Thuy Trang and the original Green Ranger Jason David Frank.
The first Pink Ranger, Amy Jo Johnson, has said she won’t be returning because the pay wasn’t good enough. And the first Red Ranger, Austin St. John, is currently dealing with federal charges involving PPP loan fraud during the COVID pandemic.
Once & Always
The story of the special revolves around another returning original Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers character, Rita Repulsa. Rita has come back with a plot involving killing the original Power Rangers as kids before they were given their powers. Repulsa has a robotic body in the anniversary special because the original actress Machiko Soga died back in 2006 due to pancreatic cancer.
Bulk and Skull are the only remaining original iconic characters still in question. The two school bullies from the original series did not make an appearance in the trailer. There’s no confirmation one way or the other as to whether or not they’ll make an appearance in the special.
Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers: Once & Always is coming to Netflix on April 19th.
