Today Show co-host wants to make his comeback
An insider told Page Six that Matt Lauer is staging his comeback. He left the public eye and social media since his firing from NBC News. Friends close to Matt say he wants to make a public return after hiding for many years.
“He thinks that he should be able to have a comeback,” one of the sources told Page Six.
Some of his friends are comparing him to Megyn Kelly, a conservative journalist, and former Fox News personality. They think he could make a return to television. Some of them are pushing him to put himself out there again. They think he could do it on his “own terms.”
Megyn attempted her comeback to television. She made many controversial comments during her tenure on television. She even said that “Black face” and “white face” were acceptable around Halloween. Megyn was eventually let go from her position. However, she claims that she was fired from her position because she was a woman.
Megyn argued that her male colleagues who share the same ideals kept keeping their positions. Matt Lauer was fired for different reasons. He was ousted for complaints of “inappropriate sexual behaviors in the workplace.” Matt first co-anchored the Today Show in 1997 alongside Katie Couric.
He eventually co-hosted with alum Ann Curry, Meredith Vieira, and Savannah Guthrie. Matt lost his job in 2017. At the time, the MeToo movement was just catching on. There were many allegations against the former Today co-anchor, most of which swirled for many years. Hoda Kotb and Savannah now serve as the lead co-anchors.
The allegations against Matt Lauer
Around that time, several allegations came out against Matt Lauer. Brooke Nevils accused him of sexually assaulting her in 2014. She revealed that the incident took place at the Sochi Olympics. Matt argued that it was consensual.
Many other allegations came out about the scorned NBC News co-anchor. In that same year, Matt also had an affair with another co-anchor. She has protected her identity ever since. There have been multiple rumors as to who that could be. The former co-host denies the allegations.
Many allegations came out in prominent newspapers like The New York Times and Variety. In 2001, Matt Lauer sexually assaulted a former NBC star. He also had a lock in his office and made inappropriate comments about his female colleagues. In December 2017, Addie Zinone shared the details of her affair with Matt.
This led to his eventual firing. Matt Lauer has been “withdrawn” from society since. He is also upset with Katie, who leaked their private text messages in her memoir. Katie spoke out against him in her October 2021 book, Going There. Matt has denied the allegations.
