Duggars’ State Of Arkansas Changing Child Porn Bill Term?
Big changes are happening with the child porn bill term in the Duggars’ state of Arkansas. This comes shortly after Josh Duggar’s arrest, trial, and conviction. The eldest of Jim Bob and Michelle’s kids is now serving 12 years in prison in Seagoville, Texas. So, what is being changed in the family’s state of Arkansas? And does it have anything to do with Josh? Keep reading for all of the details.
In the past, the term “child porn” has been used to describe these heartbreaking crimes. However, in recent years, there’s been a push to use the term “child sexual abuse material” instead. This is because the victims cannot consent and it is much different from porn. Amid Josh’s trial, many news outlets made the switch to CSAM. But in Arkansas law, it was still referred to as child porn. And this is the term used for Josh’s charges too.
Now, changes are underway, showing more respect to the victims of these tragic crimes.
Arkansas makes big changes to the term child porn.
On Thursday, Jan. 26, the Arkansas House of Representatives officially passed a bill to use the term “child sexual abuse material” in place of child pornography. Bill HB1028 was originally filed in December 2022 and went through both the House and Senate.
The switch has not occurred nationwide but this is a step in that direction. It’s possible that more states will follow suit in the near future.
Do the Duggars have anything to do with this?
On Reddit, Duggar fans and critics are discussing the possibility of Josh’s crimes affecting this change. After all, people all over the country heard about the situation. Some fans think it’s possible that all of the headlines brought attention to the issue with the term “child porn.”
One Duggar snarker wrote, “I’m hopeful that our (SNARKERS) constant referring to Josh Duggar’s illegal activities as involving CSAM might have played a part – however small – in getting this terminology changed in Arkansas.”
They added, “96 votes cast, and all in support of this bill!!!”
Others are celebrating this change and talking about how important it is. One said, “Bill HB1028 ….this is a step in the right direction for residents in AR. The rest of the country NEEDS to follow their example in order to keep predators accountable.”
