Chris Harrison reveals which Bachelor alums wanted his job
A huge part of Chris Harrison leaving was everyone wondering who would take his place. Who could the franchise ever find to replace Chris and his serious voice telling everyone it would be the most dramatic rose ceremony ever? As everyone now knows, Jesse Palmer was awarded that role. However, Jesse is not who Chris thought would get the job. In fact, he’s not acknowledged Jesse at all as the new host of The Bachelor.
Before Jesse was selected as host, there were names being thrown around and Chris said he also knew a few names of applicants who wanted his job. Prior to a permanent selection being made, Tayshia Adams and Kaitlyn Bristowe co-hosted. However, that was never permanent and only a temporary fix.
Chris shared on his debut podcast, The Most Dramatic Podcast…Ever! that there were a few Bachelor alums who wanted his job badly. He said, “I knew about certain cast members who were calling in. And the funny thing is, the people who were calling in I knew had no chance to get the job.”
During Episode 2 of his podcast he specifically called out Nick Viall. Chris said, “Nick wasn’t really strongly against me or said anything. But, you know, I think Nick was one of those among many who probably saw the blood in the water and saw the opportunity of a job that would be really phenomenal. And I had no doubt he wanted that job. But we saw each other at Wells and Sarah’s [Hyland] wedding and gave each other big hugs.”
Wells Adams was another option for host and Chris fully supported this.
Wells Adams for host
Fans also really wanted to see Wells become the permanent host. Chris was shocked when Wells didn’t get it. He said, “Wells has always been a very good man and a good friend of mine.” He continued, “Wells was in a very difficult situation because obviously he was still kind of connected to the show and he was doing stuff on Paradise, but he was one of the first to reach out to me and just say, ‘Look, I’m staying out of this. I love you and respect you.’ … I thought, to be completely candid, that Wells was going to get the job.”
He concluded saying, “I even told him, I said, ‘Hey, man, I won’t speak out publicly because I don’t think that will help you at all. In fact, it would do a lot more harm than good. But I really hope you get the job. I think you’d be great at it.’”
As everyone knows neither of those men got the job. Aside from those two, there was no doubt others hoping to land the role as well.
Chris also shared that he received a lot of support from other alums. Some of those he listed were Trista and Ryan Sutter, JoJo Fletcher and Jordan Rodgers, Chris Soules, Andi Dorfman, Sarah Herron and many more.
