In some sad news, Lola Mitchell, a pioneer of female rap music who was a member of the Three 6 Mafia, has died. The news broke when former labelmate DJ Paul honored her on his social media account.

Lola Mitchell, who rap fans know as Gangsta Boo, has died at 43. The news broke when DJ Paul put up a photo of her on his Instagram account, an obvious tribute to the pioneer female rap star. The tribute saw a lot of people pay respect to the artist in the comments of that post.

According to TMZ, her death was drug-related. The site learned from sources that she was with her brother last night at a concert in Memphis. He began to overdose and ended up in the hospital. The source then said that narcotics were found on her person, and a police investigation is underway. However, this is all unconfirmed and an autopsy will eventually reveal the actual cause of death.

Lil Jon posted that he was just together with her three weeks ago, and added, “rest well quenn [sic].” 2chainz posted: “Mannnn” and added a crying face emoji in response. Ludacris shared a pair of emojis including praying hands. Big Boi also followed up with praying hands emojis as well.

Who is Lola Mitchell of Three 6 Mafia?

Gangsta Boo started her career in the 1990s when she joined up with DJ Paul, Juicy J, and other members of the Three 6 Mafia. The group released its debut album Mystic Stylez in 1995 and became a cult classic. They then hit the charts with their next eight albums. Gangster Boo was on the first five of those albums. The fourth album, When the Smoke Clears: Sixty 6, Sixty 1, ended up going platinum and reached sixth on the Billboard charts.

Gangsta Boo was one of the only female rappers in the crew, and she held her own. Furthermore, she really helped to break ground for other female rappers of her era. On top of those albums, she also released three studio albums from 1998 to 2003. Her debut album, Enquiring Minds, hit 15th on the R&B/Hip-Hop charts and her second topped out at 29th on the Billboard 200.

She also had several mixtapes and made guest appearances on dozens of songs. Most recently, she worked with Run the Jewels (Killer Mike and El-P) in 2020 on the song “Walking in the Snow.” She also worked over the years with artists like Gucci Mane, Lil Jon, E-40, T.I., OutKast, The Game, and more.
