Alice In Borderland is one of the most successful Japanese shows on Netflix right now. Season 1 came out in 2020 to good reviews from critics and fans loving the live-action adaptation of a popular manga. It didn’t take long after Season 1’s success for Netflix to officially confirm a Season 2 is coming. And now it is nearly here. The trailer for Season 2 of Alice In Borderland is out right now. Netflix also sent out a new poster for the season captioned with the catchy tagline “There are no extra lives here”. We are once again going to be following Arisu as he tries to escape from Borderland. He has a much better understanding of the game now, although there’s still so much he doesn’t know. He has a hypothesis coming into this season: “If we clear all the games, can we return to the real world?”

We’ll see if that winds up being true, but he’ll have to survive some of the toughest games yet to get there. The description of the trailer says none of the games will be lower than face card difficulty, meaning jack, queen, and king. That’s a large ramp-up from most of the games we saw in Season 1. So there will be much, much more blood. The trailer description also says that we’ll be meeting the mastermind behind the games in Season 2. So it is clear that this is a season where many questions will be answered for fans who have been dying to know for 2 years now. Who could orchestrate games like this? And how?

More Alice In Borderland

Alice In Borderland began as a really successful manga out of Japan. It ran from 2010 to 2016 and wound up with 18 volumes before finally ending. It has nearly 2 million copies in circulation worldwide, but the live-action adaptation has arguably surpassed its source in fame. The show hit the top 1o charts on Netflix in over 70 countries. It’ll undoubtedly be doing that once again when the second season drops. It’s not uncommon for anime adaptations to supersede their manga source material, but live-action adaptations tend to fail more often than not. So it’s nice to see one with the kind of acclaim and fandom that Alice In Borderland has. It gives a lot of hope for the other Netflix live-action manga adaptations that they have in the works.

Alice In Borderland Season 2 officially comes out on Netflix in just a few weeks, December 22. Season 1 is available in its entirety on the platform right now.
