Will Al Roker Miss Rockefeller Tree Lighting Ceremony?
Al Roker could miss out on the Rockefeller Tree Lighting Ceremony. This comes after he missed Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade for the first time in 27 years. The upbeat weatherman didn’t let that get to him though. Al watched the live televised event from his hospital room.
He also had his own Thanksgiving parade in the hospital. On Thursday, November 24, Al posted an Instagram video of himself walking out of the hospital. He got to go home and spend time with his family. Al and his wife Deborah Roberts are especially grateful during this holiday.
Details of the Today co-host’s health battle
Al Roker has always been open and honest about his health struggles. So, it was baffling to fans when he was absent from the Today Show earlier this month. Al was silent on social media until he announced that he was recovering in the hospital from multiple blood clots.
The meteorologist received a lot of support from his friends and fans. They flooded the comment section to share their prayers and well wishes. Most of them have been rooting for him to return. Even his Today Show family revealed that they miss him during this time.
“So many of you have been thoughtfully asking where I’ve been. Last week, I was admitted to the hospital with a blood clot in my leg which sent some blood clots into my lungs,” Al Roker wrote on Instagram on November 18. “After some medical whack-a-mole, I am so fortunate to be getting terrific medical care and on the way to recovery.”
The television personality has had the worst luck lately. In September, Al Roker announced that he caught COVID shortly after he was boosted. He praised the science for making it easier for him to recover. Al has also opened up about his inability to participate in the upcoming Orlando walk.
Al Roker to miss the Rockefeller Tree Lighting
On Wednesday, November 30 the annual Rockefeller Tree Light Ceremony is slated to take place in New York City. Unfortunately, Al Roker won’t be there to host the event. Instead, Mario Lopez will join his Today co-hosts Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin, according to the official Rockefeller Center website. The tree lighting will air live at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
This is another first for the fan favorite. Mario is not a stranger to hosting holiday events. The Saved by the Bell star also appeared on Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Alicia Keys, Andrea Bocelli, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani, Brett Eldridge, Dan + Shay, Katharine McPhee and David Foster, and more are expected to perform.
