Does Hunter King’s Hallmark Corgi Co-Star Have Royal Blood?
Hallmark’s upcoming Royal Christmas movie is A Royal Corgi Christmas. This movie stars Hunter King, and Jordan Renzo, and introduces Bonbon, the corgi.
Bonbon portrays a royal corgi in this movie. However, is Bonbon royal in real life?
We have that answer and some fun antidotes about this upcoming Countdown To Christmas movie.
What Is A Royal Corgi Christmas About?
First of all, what is Hunter King’s new Hallmark movie A Royal Corgi Christmas about? According to IMDb, “Prince Edmond (Jordan Renzo), to ingratiate himself with his mother, gives him Mistletoe (BonBon), which after several disasters turns to Cecily (King), an expert in dogs. They will discover that love can grow in unexpected places, questioning what they really want.”
Is Bonbon A Royal Corgi?
On Tuesday, EW spoke to Sandra Strong, Bonbon’s trainer. A veterinary nurse, Sandra has been training pooches to perform since 2002.
She met Bonbon when he was only 10 weeks old. He was attending one of Strong’s pet training classes. Moreover, from the beginning, she knew that Bonbon was meant for showbiz.
Sandra saw the “funny little thing with ears flopped over and such a big expression on his face. And I thought, ‘That is a star.'”
But, does Bonbon have royal blood, like the late Queen Elizabeth II’s infamous corgis?
No, they do not. The trainer revealed that Bonbon is “Quite the opposite!” Instead, the new Hallmark star came from a family of working dogs.
He was born on a farm where corgis are still used to herd livestock. Corgis move livestock by nipping at their heels and are known as nippers. When the pups are very young, the urge to nip shows up profoundly in their behavior, as they love to nip their owner’s ankles.
Therefore, she had to do some extra training to make the pup behave more like a member of the royal family, and not nipping at the heels of the actors.
Bonbon Will Have Costume Changes In Hallmark Film Debut
While Y&R alum Hunter King will be wearing a fabulous blue gown in Hallmark’s A Royal Corgi Christmas, Bonbon will also be decked out in this movie.
Expect several fashion ensembles befitting a royal pooch.
Bonbon Does His Own Stunts
In his first Hallmark movie, Bonbon did a few stunts. Motivated by a dried venison reward, he did everything in one take. However, not everything went as planned. Bonbon was unnerved by the violin bows.
He was about to run across the stage as the queen was making her speech, when he noticed the violin bows — the orchestra was playing — appear above the music stands! They scared him so much he would not stop barking! The orchestra had to leave so he could continue with his ‘staged’ naughty behavior!
However, when Hunter King spoke to Rachel Wagner on the Hallmarkies podcast, she admitted that they were on their toes in some scenes. You never know what the corgis may do. She even compared it to working with a baby.
But, the Hidden Gems star also revealed that they had the best time.
“It kind of makes it more fun it’s like you’re kind of improving and it adds to the fun of this.”
Don’t miss the premiere of A Royal Corgi Christmas on Friday, November 25, at 8 p.m., Eastern, on the Hallmark Channel.
