Tino Franco Addresses Cheating, Aven & ‘Bachelorette’ Trauma
Tino Franco has had a rough go regarding the aftermath of being on The Bachelorette. He admitted to cheating on Rachel Recchia while they were engaged. He was forced to see his relationship end with her with television cameras surrounding them. Tino was also ambushed at the After the Final Rose. Now he’s speaking out about the cheating, the traumatic experience and even where things stand with Aven Jones. Keep reading to find out more.
Tino Franco speaks out
Tino Franco got engaged to Rachel Recchia on the season finale of The Bachelorette. They seemed happy and in love. However, things quickly took a turn off camera. Tino reportedly cheated on Rachel and kissed another woman while they were still engaged. Now, he’s speaking out after being put through the wringer by fans and Rachel.
Tino appeared on The Viall Files with Nick Viall. He opened up about how he feels about cheating on Rachel and so much more. As far as cheating on Rachel, Tino feels ashamed and knows there is no excuse for his actions.
He also cleared the air that they were not on a break when he kissed the other woman. He admits he and Rachel were going through a big rough patch and his insecurities got the best of him.
Tino said, “I do not stand by what I did at all. It was not cool. It wasn’t fair to Rachel. And it haunts me daily, still. It’s something I’m ashamed of. And certainly, like, wish I could have done it differently, like, a million times over. … I’m trying to go through and unfold and figure out why my insecurities, my ego could just take over my actions like that and just led me down this path to go to rock bottom.”
What happened that night he cheated?
He also addressed that night in question. Tino said, “I just kind of gave in. I just leaned in, and we kissed and that wasn’t fair to that girl, either. That wasn’t considerate of her feelings at all. Like, she didn’t want to be wrapped up in any of this. And I realized really quickly [at the time], like, ‘I don’t know what the future holds for me or Rachel, but I know this is not who I am, and this is not what I should be doing. So I got out of there.’ And it was pretty haunting.”
Seeking therapy
The Bachelorette set Tino up with a counselor after the show ended. He has been seeking help since then. In fact, he noted that it was probably 15 years past when he should have sought out help for his issues.
He was traumatized by the show in many ways. The day before After the Final Rose Tino said he spent the day locked in his trailer. He even admitted to crying in the bathroom.
Tino’s mysterious phone call
Tino also addressed that mysterious phone call he made when he and Rachel were breaking up. He called a friend who he had been confiding in. He started walking so production couldn’t hear what he was saying. Tino wanted advice on what to do because things were not going well.
Where he stands with Aven Jones
Fans were shocked when production brought Aven Jones on stage to talk to Rachel with Tino still sitting there. Tino believes that Aven meant no harm. In fact, he thinks Aven didn’t realize that he would still be on stage.
Tino said Aven reached out to him that night and the next day. Tino said, “He texted me that night and just said, ‘Hey, I’m really sorry. That was tough.’ And then we talked on the phone the next day too. He’s a class-act dude. I don’t think he was at all trying to, you know, posterize me. I think he just went there with the intention of cheering up Rachel.”
He also said he will always care for Rachel.
