Netflix Horror Series ‘The Midnight Club’ Sets A World Record

Netflix’s The Midnight Club recently premiered on October 7 and has quickly crawled its way to the streaming platform’s Top 10 list. However, that isn’t the only reason the horror series is a topic of discussion on social media. Created by Mike Flanagan and Leah Fong, the series’ first season has a total of 10 episodes. It is an adaptation of the 1994 novel of the same name written by Christopher Pike.

What is this world record the series broke? Is it for the story or something else? Keep reading to find out!

Netflix The Midnight Club Sets A Guinness World Record

Soon after its debut on the streaming platform, the series rose to the second position on Netflix’s Top 10. Although it would take The Midnight Club sometime before it dethrones or at least attempts to dethrone Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story from its top position. Given its gripping story and of course Mike Flanagan’s creativity, the series has now made it to the Guinness World Records.

Flanagan and his creative team were presented with a Guinness World Record for the ‘Most Jump Scare In a Single Episode’ at Netflix’s New York Headquarters. However, the co-creator revealed that he isn’t a big fan of jump scares and wished to get rid of them in one episode.

He explained, “I thought, ‘We’re going to do all of them at once, and then if we do it right, a jump scare will be rendered meaningless for the rest of the series.’ It’ll just destroy it. Kill it finally until it’s dead. But that didn’t happen. They were like, ‘Great! More!’”

Mike Flanagan Deems Himself An Expert On Jump Scares

Flanagan now states that he is a subject matter expert on jump scares. Talking about his work he said,

“My whole career I completely s*** on jump scares as a concept, and I wanted to make sure it was pinned to me, too, as much as it is to the show, to Netflix, and all of us who have inflicted this on everyone.”

“Now, I have my name in the Guinness Book Of World Records for jump scares, which means next time I get the note, I can say, ‘You know, as the current world record holder for jump scares, I don’t think we need one here.’” he concluded.

Twitter Fans Praise Mike Flanagan For The Midnight Club

While everyone might not agree with adding so many jump scare to a single episode, it did work in the series’ favor. In the past, Flanagan has proved himself a horror genius. He has created some exceptional masterpieces like The Haunting Of Bly Manor and The Haunting Of Hill House. Thankfully, the jump scares added to The Midnight Club perfectly integrate into the storyline and aren’t distracting.

Talking about the series, a fan tweeted,

“6 min into The Midnight Club and I’ll be damned Mike Flanagan you have done it again.”

“The Midnight Club on Netflix is soo good!”  wrote another.

A third fan tweeted, “THE MIDNIGHT CLUB IS OOKY SPOOKY GET ON THAT.”

“The Midnight Club is like American Horror Story x Black Mirror vibes I love it,” claimed a fourth fan.
