‘GMA’ Host Gio Benitez Tears Up In Emotional ‘DWTS’ Collab
GMA host Gio Benitez broke down in tears in an emotional collaboration with Dancing With The Stars. This was a very unique episode where Good Morning America celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month as Gio learned some amazing salsa moves from a DWTS pro. What was so emotional about the segment? GMA Host Gio Benitez Learns A Vibrant Salsa Routine
DWTS’ first-ever Latino dancing pro, Ezra Sosa took the opportunity to teach Gio a couple of salsa moves. As fun as the segment was, the host got emotional over the importance of celebrating his rich cultural heritage. As per The Sun, he even broke down in tears live on-air.

The episode showcased some BTS clips of Gio alongside Ezra. He explained that while he had grown up in Miami, he never had the chance to take up professional salsa classes. The newscaster partnered up with Ezra’s sister and he learned a vibrant dance routine as he tried to master fancy footwork and turns.
Gio Benitez Tears Up Honoring His Hispanic Heritage
After he learned the dance moves, Gio became teary-eyed on live TV. In his voice-over, Gio mentioned, “I was overcome by gratitude and I took in what this moment really meant to me.”

Talking to the camera, Gio added, “I feel a little emotional about it, I really do. I’ve always wanted to really learn this and really honor my family. They came from Cuba with absolutely nothing leaving so much behind and I want to honor them with this.”

Stephanie, Ezra’s sister & the newscaster’s dance partner, chimed in, “We can honor our family and roots- and look at us, we’re doing it!”
Fans overwhelmed by Gio’s emotional on-air segment took to Twitter as one wrote, “You made me cry this morning when you spoke about your family!”

Tommy DiDario, Gio’s husband, also reposted the special emotional segment and wrote, “I’m so proud of you. Every single day.”
Gio And Robin Roberts Meet Up With Sam Champion
Meanwhile, the newscaster’s GMA colleague and weatherman Sam Champion is a contestant on Dancing With The Stars. On Monday, Robin Roberts and Gio flew to LA to support Sam in the celebrity dance competition. As they made it to the studio, they posted pictures from the journey. Not just that, host Tyra Banks even gave Robin a big shoutout in the ballroom.
