‘Jeopardy!‘ Viewers Give Thumbs Down To Cringey Category
For years, Jeopardy! has been following a unique question and answer format that tests its contestants’ IQ and of course, there is the prize money. Yet, a weird Jeopardy! category on the Tuesday episode was deemed ridiculous by fans. What was this category? Keep reading to find out what happened!
Jeopardy! Introduces New Category Catered To The Young Crowd
Jeopardy! Season 39 premiered on September 12, 2022, with Ken Jennings all set to continue his hosting gig until January. Before the premiere of the latest season, both Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings were declared the permanent host of the show. After that, the makers for long struggled to find the right face for the show after the death of legendary host late Alex Trebek. The duo hosted Season 38 as guest hosts after which they were chosen as the perfect replacement.

Although Jeopardy! has had some interesting categories in the past, the one they had on Wednesday was weird and catered to the younger crowd. As per The Sun, the category was named ‘Current Slang.’ It started with a clue for $400 that read:
“This 7-letter adjective means both dehydrated and too eager for approval.”

Contestant Kelly buzzed in correctly and said, “What is… Thirsty?”

For $800, the second clue read: “The name of this Italian fashion house means stylish or all is well.” The answer to this was ‘Gucci.’
The third clue for $1000 read: “A drama queen might be described with a 3 letter word, also a music genre.”
The episode winner Emmett got the answer right and said, “Emo.”
Jeopardy! Current Slang Category Became Progressively Weird
The clues got progressively weird and as they reached the fourth one, the clue read, “It sounds like it means ‘stolen’ but this 8-letter compliment means your style is fierce.”
Contestant Kelly buzzed in with slight hesitancy, “What is… Snatched?”
Finally, the last clue for $2000 in the same category was, “’Y’ is for this 4-letter word which can means ‘to throw’ or be an interjection of joy.”
Again, Kelly answered right and said, “What is: Yeet?”

This is when Ken joked about it and said, “To, ‘Yeet’ $2000 more for you.”
This video was uploaded on Jeopardy!’s Instagram account where they admitted to ditching the dictionary for this category. The post was captioned, “Move over Urban Dictionary, we got this one.”
Fans flocked to the comment section as one wrote,
“I can safely say I never thought I’d hear ‘yeet’ on Jeopardy.”

“Playing a little loose with the word current,” chimed in a second fan.
A third wrote, “loved this category! I’m a bartender & watch Jeopardy with my regulars, we take it quite seriously.”
How Will Ken Jennings & Mayim Bialik Share Hosting Duties?
Now that Ken Jennings is heading the show, Mayim Bialik will pitch in after January until the end of the season. More so, she will also be hosting Celebrity Jeopardy! which is slated to premiere on September 25, 2022. Ken Jennings will also take charge of the upcoming Second Chance Tournament that is slated to premiere on October 17.
