Queen Consort Camilla Talks About Her Pets’ Adoption Story

Camilla adopted Bluebell and Beth from the Batterseas Dogs’ & Cats’ Home located in London. These dogs are Jack Russell Terriers that became a part of the royal family back in February 2017. In an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live, Camilla talked about her love for dogs. She said, “The nice thing about dogs is you can sit them down, you could have a nice long conversation, you could be cross, you could be sad, and they just sit looking at you, wagging their tail.”

She also talked about meeting her pets at the shelter home as the 75-year-old noted, “Along I went to Battersea, & Beth appeared, and she had just been moved from pillar to post and dumped.”

“We thought it would be nice for her to have a friend. They found [Bluebell] two or three weeks later, wandering about in the woods, no hair on her, covered in sores, virtually dead. And they nursed her back to life and her hair grew again. She’s very sweet, but a tiny bit neurotic, shall we say,” she explained.

The Royal Pets Aren’t Allowed On The Bed

As per Evening Standard, the United Kingdom’s Queen Consort also chimed in that the dogs love children and are allowed almost everywhere except on the beds. As of now, the pets are still at Charles and Camilla’s Clarence House located in London. They will eventually get to explore Buckingham Palace but only after the renovation works are completed.

Camilla was declared Queen Consort as opposed to Queen Regnant as she doesn’t have any blood right to the throne. The latter title is only given to someone who has a blood claim and can also rule independently like Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II.

On the other hand, a Queen Consort is the title given to the king’s wife. A consort doesn’t have any right to rule and just serves as a supportive figurehead. Previous consorts in the Royal Family include:

  • Queen Charlotte (wife of King George III)
  • Queen Mary (wife of King George V)

When Is The Official Royal Coronation Date?
