Shangela Excited To Be The First Drag Performer On ‘DWTS’
Shangela can’t wait to be part of Dancing With The Stars Season 31. Each year, DWTS strives to be better and more inclusive than the year before. Last year, JoJo Siwa and Jenna Johnson teamed up to be the first same-sex couple on the show. Now, celebrity drag performer Shangela will team up with Gleb Savchenko for another DWTS first.

Shangela & Gleb Savchenko can’t wait to show the audience what they can do
These days, Dancing With The Stars seems to prioritize inclusivity and love. And that’s a message that many viewers and cast members alike can get behind. Shangela is going to be the first person to compete in drag on the show. Gleb Savchenko can’t wait to be part of this ground-breaking team.
“We’re changing the world, and I love it,” Gleb told the press after the GMA cast announcement. “It’s all about positive energy, all about love, and we’re just going to have a lot of fun, learn to tango, learn all the ballroom steps.”
Likewise, Shangela is incredibly thankful for the opportunity.
“I’m the first person to ever be able to compete in drag on Dancing With The Stars in the history of the show here, so I hope that we show people that it’s all about the heart and soul of who you are as a person,” Shangela said during a DWTS press conference. “It doesn’t matter if it’s two men dancing together, if it’s a man or a drag entertainer like myself dancing together. It’s about the spirit of dance and the fun, and the ability to connect and to learn more about other people’s worlds.”
Gleb added that he was delighted to learn that Shangela would be his Season 31 partner. In previous years, the 38-year-old dancer had been advocating for more same-sex partnerships on the show. Based on Instagram activity, it seems like everything is going just swimmingly in the rehearsal room.

DWTS pro Gleb Savchenko has a reputation for getting tangled up in romantic drama with his dance partners. Fans hope that his partnership with Shangela will be more productive.
