Marvel Announces New ‘Loki’ Season 2 Cast Members At D23
Disney held its annual convention this weekend, and this year’s D23 had a lot of great surprises for fans. The company brought out Marvel and showed off trailers for upcoming movies and Disney+ shows including Loki. The company also had cast members show up to talk. Plus, it gave away some big secrets about upcoming movies and shows.
One of the biggest moments came when Marvel brought out Tom Hiddleston and talked about the second season of Loki, which will be the first Marvel Disney+ series with a second season. There has already been some news and set photos released, but this was Marvel letting fans know exactly what to expect.
Marvel reveals big news about Loki Season 2
D23 presented a big look at Loki Season 2, and fans in attendance got to see some footage from the new season of the show. As a catch-up, the first season of Loki followed the Trickster God after he escaped with the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame. Loki had become a hero and died at Thanos’ hands in the previous movie. Then, time travel allowed the Avengers to reassemble the Time Stones to reverse Thanos snapping out half of existence.
This caused a problem when Loki slipped away with the Tesseract in the past, which created what Marvel calls a “variant” of the character. This Loki never had the experiences in Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok, and Avengers: Infinity War. It was a new version of Loki that helped create a new timeline. This was a no-no for a group called the Time Variance Authority, whose job was to keep the main timeline as the only timeline.
However, Loki avoided getting wiped out of existence when he agreed to help hunt down another Loki variant that escaped – a woman named Sylvie. In the end, Sylvie betrayed Loki and killed the one man who kept the timeline intact, a variant of a villain known as Kang. This messed everything up and now Loki Season 2 will deal with that.
According to the D23 panel, Loki will basically be like a Paul Revere character, running from person to person and from place to place to warn them that Kang is coming. This is huge since Phase 6 of the MCU will have the Avengers battling Kang. It looks like Loki Season 2 will be the setup for that.
Loki Season 2 has new cast members
The first season of Loki had some great cast members, including Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, Jonathan Majors as Kang, and Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius. However, a huge fan favorite will join the second season.
Ke Huy Quan, who older fans know as Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Data in The Goonies, has joined Loki Season 2. Quan made a huge comeback in 2022 when he starred in the fantastic fantasy movie Everything Everywhere All at Once. This new role in Loki will be his biggest in decades.
As for the story, Loki has shown up and revealed that Kang died, and more Kangs are coming, and they will destroy everything. The footage then showed he was talking to several different versions of Loki and it looks like he is the only person he can trust in this battle.
Are you excited about Loki Season 2? Will Ke Huy Quan be a great addition to the cast? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
