‘GMA’ Lara Spencer Gives Serena Williams New Nickname
GMA Lara Spencer gave Serena Williams a new nickname. The famous tennis player is often referred to as the “GOAT” by her fans. However, Lara came up with a new name that was super-appropriate. It came from a blunder she suffered during a live broadcast.

She bounced a ball on her racket. However, she didn’t know that someone behind the scenes was playing a trick on her. They bounced another ball in her direction. Lara was caught off-guard and she dropped her first ball. She tried to hide the blunder, but the latest one she couldn’t cover up.
Lara Spencer suffers another live blunder
On Thursday’s broadcast of Good Morning America, Lara Spencer had another blunder on the air. She’s been reporting the news from the U.S. Open, which is Serena Williams’ last time playing tennis. Lara reported in front of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center where the championships take place.
One of the stories she’s been following was Serena Williams’ run in the tournament. Fans have been watching the “GOAT” play for one last time. Unfortunately, the 40-year-old lost against Ajla Tomljanović. Serena the hot topic on Thursday’s broadcast of GMA due to her win against Anett Kontaveit.
She did a twirl in celebration of her win. Lara Spencer recalled a time when fans would twirl for Serena. That’s when she suffered another on-air blunder. Lara spoke too fast as she flubbed mid-sentence.
“This morning, tennis fans around the world are paying tribute. They’re celebrating Tweena,” Lara Spencer accidentally said before catching herself. “Uh, Serena.”
The anchor thought the new nickname was suitable for the athlete since she does the celebratory spin on the court. Lara went with it after suffering the blunder. She was satisfied with herself as she admitted that she “created something.” Lara tried to take credit for her blooper.
“You didn’t see me do it, but, trust me, I did,” Lara Spencer continued. “The U.S. Open is encouraging fans to show their support for the GOAT by doing their own version of that signature spin and wave, using the hashtag #TwirlForSerena.”
